Nearly two years ago now, Jefferson Griffin lost his race for the North Carolina Supreme Court. He challenged the outcome, and tried to have more than 60,000 ballots thrown out. He still lost. A new bill in the state would make this sore loser’s playbook legal. The law would give candidates three days to challenge ballots after the polls close and would cut down early voting for primaries by seven days. In addition, it would order election offices to build a system for removing voters from the rolls—using the same federal database the government has admitted in court has flagged US citizens as noncitizens. The bill passed the House 62 votes to 47 and went to the governor’s desk. But Dem Gov. Josh Stein says he will veto it. Republicans will try to override that veto, but they don’t have the numbers on their own. In June, two Democrats missed a session and four of Stein’s vetoes fell that same day. If Democrats show up, this bill is dead. A Judge Blocked It Everywhere
Trump tried to stop the US Postal Service from delivering mail ballots this November, but on Tuesday Judge Indira Talwani blocked him in all fifty states. Trump’s order demanded states hand over a list of everyone expecting a mail ballot, forcing the Postal Service to screen every envelope against that list before delivering it. If you’re not on the list, you don’t get a ballot. Judge Talwani’s ruling was clear—the executive branch has no authority to regulate elections. Millions of Americans vote by mail. All of them still can. They’re Suing Him For Selling His Own Posts
Since August 1, Trump’s social media company has charged $100,000 a month to those who want to see what he posts before it goes public. He names companies. He announces tariffs. Get the words a few seconds early and you can trade on them before anyone else can. More than ten firms have signed up, and now Trump’s company is looking at selling the same access to gambling sites. That way people can bet on what he’s about to announce—whether it be a war, a court challenge, or a tariff that can move the markets. On Wednesday, The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation sued Trump in federal court over the scheme. Rep. Jamie Raskin, who has been investigating it, was clear: Trump is “selling advance access to that market-moving information to the high bidders.” He also called the whole arrangement “the depraved essence of insider trading.” Add this to the long list of investigations Democrats will launch into Trump if they win back the House. With the majority comes subpoena power, and subpoenas don’t ask nicely. “A Cartoonish Bribe”
In February, Trump put a tax on almost everything coming into America. In early June, the regime published a list of goods that would be exempt from the tax. American companies asked for—among other things—relief on medical devices, olive oil, and auto parts. Almost all of them were turned down. Diamonds didn’t make the cut either. Isidore Mörsel chairs Belgium’s diamond trade group. It ships $2.1 billion of diamonds into America every year. On June 28 he handed the American ambassador in Brussels a gold ring set with 321 diamonds, Trump’s full legal name engraved inside. On July 23, Trump signed off on the final list of exemptions. Diamonds were on it. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal said it looks like “a cartoonish bribe,” and sent letters to Mörsel and the jeweler demanding to know who paid for it. They responded, without answering any of the questions. A senator in the minority can only do so much. But if Democrats take back the Senate, they can put people under oath. In eighty-one days, we can vote to make that happen. Thanks for your support. This is the briefing I’d give a campaign manager in Iowa with 81 days left. This wasn’t expected. Trump won Iowa by 13 points in 2024. Now, the Senate race to replace Republican Joni Ernst is essentially tied. Emerson College polled it August 2 through 4, and found GOP Rep. Ashley Hinson at 47.5% and Democratic nominee Josh Turek at 45%, with 6% undecided and a margin of error of 3.7 points. Fox News had Turek ahead by 4 in early July. Times/Siena had Hinson up 2 that same week. No polls have Hinson leading outside the margin of error. Money isn’t working. Hinson raised $10.2 million and has $6.7 million in the bank, while Turek raised $6.3 million and has $2.4 million in the bank. A GOP outside group has reserved $29 million to try and hold the seat. Still polling even. GOP Gov. Kim Reynolds is retiring. The governor’s race is now rated a toss-up. As many as three of four congressional districts are in play as well. Turek is a two-time Paralympic gold medalist who won a state house seat in a district Trump carried. His campaign talks about groceries and healthcare. Iowa Republicans, meanwhile, are running around the state talking about Turek. The Bottom Line: The GOP is spending tens of millions to hold a seat they thought was safe. Now the governor’s mansion, the Senate seat, and most of the House delegation are all in play at once. Ernst saw this coming. That’s why she bailed. Iowa is in play—in more ways than one. 100% true, Scott. When Trump was elected again in 2024, I became so depressed that I was literally crying every day and feeling helpless. When I found this community, it truly gave me hope that Americans are fighting with all they got ... and every person can make a difference in their own way. I now write letters to congress, call politicians, share posts, attend rallies, talk to strangers about politics and do whatever I can from my little corner of the country to help. This is not a game! I can't believe this government, this Congress. I guess it all will have to burn to ashes. Do they not think about when there is nothing left to steal or sell? I know Trump never thinks but there should be a brain cell somewhere in the government that might stop stealing and see that it will end even for them. God, I'm sick of them. I wrote, like others did, plus calls, for months and Blanche was still confirmed. They are all racid, diseased.
Don't forget Joni Ernst's "We're all going to die." It was a callous statement made in response to a question about cuts to Medicaid, leading to more deaths. She pissed off people around the country. I sent a postcard from Colorado telling her off. Ernst's apology was even worse than her original comment.
It's the lack of compassion, the arrogance, ignorance, corruption and cruelty of the Republicans that will eventually bring them down. The Republicans believe that they are invincible because of the money and gerrymandering that backs them. But people are angry and frustrated. Hopefully, that anger and frustration drives voters to the polls.
Sadly, Democrats will be expected to fix everything immediately. I hope they are prepared and planning for a victory. Absolutely NO PARDONS, every single corrupt or enabler must face Justice.

Keep in mind that we're talking about the 2026 midterms, not the 2028 presidential election. Congress can hold hearings, subpoena witnesses, and pass legislation, but it can't issue pardons. On January 3, 2027, Trump and his enablers will still be in the White House, Todd Blanche will most likely still be attorney general, and the Supreme Court will still have its 6–3 anti-democracy majority.
Anyone who expects Democrats to "fix everything immediately" has no idea how things work. It's up to all of us to help enlighten them.

According to AI: "Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) executives announced that over 10 customers have subscribed to the service. These subscribers are primarily high-frequency trading (HFT) firms and quantitative Wall Street trading outfits that rely on automated algorithms."And, " Because these are private B2B commercial contracts managed by Trump Media, the specific corporate names, ticker symbols, or LLCs subscribed to the tier have been kept confidential by the company and are not part of any public registry." The only time I can ever remember such a hoopla over elections was the 'chad' problem in Florida in the 2000 election between Bush and Gore!
