I'm fighting Republican efforts to cut Medicaid

 

​​This week, a bill to cut over $700 billion from Medicaid just so America's 759 billionaires can get massive tax breaks will be on the Senate floor for a vote.  This is President Trump's supposedly Big Beautiful Bill and I will oppose it. I wanted to let you know a little bit more about just how bad this bill is for Rhode Islanders:  America's wealthiest will get $12,000 wealthier, and the poor will get $1,600 poorer. $3,400,000,000,000 - that's over three trillion dollars - gets added to the national debt to pay for these tax breaks. 44,000 will lose health insurance - putting a massive strain on families, emergency rooms, and our state's budget. 22,000 Rhode Islanders - most of them children - would be at risk of losing some or all of their food assistance. It gives up on fixing our immigration system and instead orders $45 billion for building immigration detention centers. Puts more than 250 million acres of public lands - think forests, canyonlands, and prairies - up for auction to the highest bidder. Lowering prices and passing tax cuts for everyday Rhode Islanders struggling to make ends meet is common sense and I support those policies, but the President's Big Beautiful Bill does the opposite.  Instead, his plan is a betrayal of hardworking American taxpayers.  I am working around the clock to defeat it and prevent President Trump and his powerful allies from using your taxpayer dollars to put their special interests ahead of yours.  As always, don't hesitate to contact me, and I encourage you to follow my work on social media or by visiting my website HERE.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
