As the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee, it's my responsibility to keep climate and environmental sustainability at the top of the Congressional agenda.
I want to give you an update on some of the important measures I'm working on, but first, I couldn't be prouder to have received word that our campaign has been endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters. It's an honor to be recognized by such an impactful organization.
If you're in on our fight to advance bold environmental policies, will you join the League of Conservation Voters in supporting our campaign by pitching in a contribution of any amount today? »
House Democrats haven't been wasting any time in advancing bold policies to address climate disruption while protecting our air, water, wildlife, and public lands.
Earlier this year, my colleagues and I passed the Protecting America's Wilderness and Public Lands Act, which included the Grand Canyon Protection Act to permanently ban uranium mining in the area surrounding the national park.
In the fight to protect our public and Tribal lands, I teamed up with Sen. Bernie Sanders to introduce the Save Oak Flat Act to permanently protect the Oak Flat area of Tonto National Forest, a land considered sacred by many tribal communities, from destructive mining proposals.
I recently introduced the Ocean-Based Climate Solutions Act which seeks to leverage the ocean’s potential in the fight against climate change by promoting offshore renewable energy, protecting blue carbon, supporting climate-ready fisheries, expanding marine protected areas, and improving ocean health.
And finally, the bill that has the fossil fuel industry seething the most is my landmark Environmental Justice for All Act, which will finally give historically marginalized communities the tools required to fight back against environmental racism.
It will restore power to local communities to protect their environmental quality by strengthening the 1964 Civil Rights Act and National Environmental Policy Act and allow citizens and organizations to sue over discrimination in environmental programs, helping to center our economy on human well-being instead of polluter profits.
We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to pass progressive environmental policies, but with the midterms just around the corner and the fossil fuel industry working to stop us, I need to ask:
Will you pitch in a donation today — even if it's just a couple of dollars — to help our campaign fight back against the deep-pocketed fossil fuel industry?
Peace,
Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ)
