The IRS is set to Allow ICE to View Data of Undocumented Immigrations

The IRS is about to break 30 years of precedent and allow ICE to use the data of undocumented immigrants for deportations, tax revenue is down for the country, and Trump threatens funding for Maine

Today is March 22nd and here is your evening news rundown. As I travel throughout Panama, one theme has emerged thus far: the people of Panama care very deeply about their country and are upset about Trump’s attacks and threats to take the Panama Canal.

With that, here is all the news you missed:

  • According to The Washington Post, the IRS is close to finalizing a deal that would let the Department of Homeland Security access tax information to track undocumented immigrants. “This is a complete betrayal of 30 years of the government telling immigrants to file their taxes,” one IRS official said.

  • Trump is threatening to withhold federal tax funding from Maine colleges unless the state’s governor personally apologizes to him.

  • Tax revenue could drop by 10% this year—roughly $500 billion lost—because taxpayers and businesses don’t think the Trump administration will go after tax cheats, according to The Washington Post.

  • According to POLITICO, Elon Musk’s X has suspended opposition accounts in Turkey during ongoing civil unrest.

  • Former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber, 43, who resigned in January, was found dead this morning by police in Alexandria, Virginia.

  • According to the AP, Pope Francis is expected to be released from the hospital on Sunday, doctors say.

  • China has revealed a deep-sea device designed to cut even the world’s most secure underwater communication and power cables, according to the South China Morning Post.

  • “I don’t regret the vote,” Bradley Bartell said after his wife was detained by ICE as they returned home from their honeymoon.

  • A group of Voice of America journalists are suing Kari Lake and the Trump administration, claiming the shutdown of the network was unlawful and unconstitutional. They argue the move violated their First Amendment rights and overstepped Congress’s authority over federal spending.

See you in the morning.
