Absentee, mail-in ballots available for Middleboro election

MIDDLEBORO — Absentee and vote by mail ballots for the Annual Town Election on Saturday, April 5 are now available at the Town Clerk’s Office.

Vote by mail ballots are available for all registered voters in Middleboro.

Absentee ballots are available for registered voters who will be unable to vote at the polls on

Election Day due to absence from town during normal polling hours; physical disability preventing them from going to the polling place or religious belief.

Registered voters must fill out the appropriate application which will allow them to have a ballot mailed to them or complete an absentee ballot at the Town Clerk’s Office. 

The deadline to submit an application to have a ballot mailed is Monday, March 31 at 5 p.m. The deadline to absentee vote in person is Friday, April 4 at noon. Completed ballots must be returned to the Town Clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

The Annual Town Election is Saturday, April 5. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Precinct 1 votes at Oak Point Club House. Precincts 2, 4 and 6 vote at Middleboro High School

Precinct 3 votes at South Middleboro Fire Station.Precinct 5 votes at the Council on Aging Precinct 7 votes at Nichols  Middle School.

The Town Clerk’s office is located in the Town Hall Annex at 20 Centre St. Hours are Mondays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. to noon.

Vote by Mail

Massachusetts voters now have the option to vote early by mail in all elections, with no excuse required.

Massachusetts has Absentee Voting for those who qualify. There are special circumstances where you need to apply for an absentee ballot instead. You can find more information on the Absentee Ballot page.

Online Mail-In Ballot Application System

Any written request with your signature is an acceptable application. You can simply write a signed letter to the Town Clerk's Office c/o 20 Centre Street, Middleborough MA 02346 to apply for your ballot.

Applications may be submitted for the current calendar year by using one of options below:

• In person at the Town Clerk's Office
• In the Town drop box located on the side of the Annex Building to the right of the main entrance
• By mail c/o 20 Centre Street, Middleborough MA, 02346,
• By email *
• By facsimile (508) 946-2308
• State Issued "Vote by Mail" Postcard mailed before state elections to all registered voters who have not already applied for a vote by mail or absentee ballot.

        * If you are emailing your application, you need to sign it in a way that may be compared to your handwritten signature. Electronic signatures, scanned applications, and photos of applications are acceptable. Typed signatures cannot be accepted.

Applying for a Primary Ballot

If you’re applying for a primary ballot, and you are not registered in a political party (Democrat, Republican or Libertarian), you must indicate which party ballot you prefer to receive. If you do not provide a party on your application, you will not receive a primary ballot.

If you registered as Unenrolled (commonly referred to as “Independent”) or enrolled in political designations, you are allowed to vote in the party primary of your choice. Your ballot choice will not affect your party registration.

Application Deadlines

Any mail-in ballot must be requested in writing at least five (5) business days before Election Day.

Apply as early as possible, especially if your ballot will need to be mailed out of town. The U.S. Postal Service recommends allowing up to 7 days for mail delivery. To ensure you receive your ballot with enough time to mail it back, you should apply 2-3 weeks before Election Day.

Returning your Ballot

There are several options for returning your ballot. You may return your ballot by:

• Mailing it back using the envelope provided
• Hand-delivering your ballot to your Town Clerk's Office, Annex Building, 1st Floor, Middleborough
• Dropping your ballot off at an early voting location during early voting hours
• Using the Town ballot drop box located on the side of the Annex Building, 20 Centre Street to the right of the main entrance doors

Track Your Ballot

You can track your ballot on the Secretary of State's website. This link allows you to see if the Town Clerk's Office has received and processed your application. You will be able to see when a ballot was sent to you, if and when your ballot was returned to the Town Clerk's Office and the status.

Ballots may not be dropped off at a polling place on Election Day.  Ballots must be returned to the Town Clerk's Office by 8:00 PM on Election Day.
