Last night, Donald filed a lawsuit against The Des Moines Register, its parent company Gannett, and their former long-time pollster Ann Selzer. He’s accusing them of “brazen election interference,” over a poll that showed him losing in Iowa just days before November 5th.
To be clear, it wasn’t election interference—it was just a bad poll.
But corporate media ran with the story, and almost every major news org parroted Trump’s claims in their headlines. They don’t talk about how frivolous and ludicrous it is, or how Donald continues to threaten the media. Just that he filed a lawsuit.
The precedent this sets is horrific. Trump is getting a pass to weaponize lawsuits, silence critics, and tighten his grip on the Press. Donald’s threats alone are enough to ruin a journalist's career, and deter others from publishing anything remotely critical of him.
To make matters worse, the corporate media is folding under the pressure like a cheap Trump-brand suit.
Like when Joe and Mika went to Mar-a-Lago to kiss the ring, or when WaPo and LA Times pulled their Kamala endorsements at the last minute. We’ve seen it from ABC News, with their recent cowardly settlement, and CNN trying to play both sides with an obvious pro-Trump bias.
These are just a few examples, and they all have paid dearly for it. Morning Joe’s and CNN’s ratings have tanked, hundreds of thousands have canceled their subscriptions to WaPo and LA Times, and ABC News is coughing up $16 million.
Trump likely is thinking that since ABC News settled, maybe The Des Moines Register and Gannett will too. As long as corporate media keeps caving to Donald’s threats, none of them are safe from his wrath.
It’s clear that now is the time for a new generation of independent journalism. We will continue leading the way by holding corporate media accountable and fighting Trump every single day—just like we have for the last 8 years.
