We’ve never covered an election like this in our history

Today, with just 80 days until this fall’s midterm elections, we’re launching our Summer Campaign fundraising drive to fund our coverage from now until November 8.

And let’s be clear: This is the most dangerous midterm election we’ve ever covered in our history.

Insurrectionists who joined the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, are running for Congress, governor, and state legislature.

Anti-choice candidates are pledging to ban all abortion from the moment of conception, and without the protections of Roe v. Wade, there will be nothing to stop them.

Big Lie election deniers who tried to help Trump overturn the 2020 election are now running for the offices that are in charge of our elections, how votes are counted, and declaring who won.

Defending American democracy in times like this requires journalism with the courage to side with democracy against authoritarianism. That’s why Common Dreams is so essential in this moment.

But with Big Tech giants like Google and Facebook controlling so much of the traffic on the internet, it’s become more difficult than ever to survive as an independent news outlet.

We need to raise $75,000 during our Summer Campaign, and the success or failure of this drive will determine whether we will have the resources to provide the coverage our democracy needs to survive. Will you make a donation to help keep the hard-hitting, independent journalism of Common Dreams alive?

With grit and gratitude,

Craig Brown
