AIG is ignoring Indigenous rights

American International Group (AIG) — a massive fossil fuel insurer  recently restricted their support for the dirtiest fossil fuels, including some tar sands oil and Arctic energy projects.

This is a big step forward for our climate, but not big enough. And AIG continues to ignore indigenous rights (which don’t even get a mention in their new policy)!

AIG’s new climate policy fails to address threats to sacred lands and waterways, and our planet, by allowing them to insure new tar sands pipelines in Canada and oil drilling operations in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

AIG should not be allowed to ignore the concerns of Indigenous people. Will you help us draw attention to their concerns by sending an email to AIG leadership right away?

Indigenous communities have spent over a decade fighting expansion of a major tar sands transport network, the Trans Mountain Pipeline.

Indigenous leaders in Alaska and Canada are also urging AIG to strengthen its commitments to protect the entire Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which is sacred to the Gwich’in Nation.

But AIG has ignored requests to meet with Indigenous leaders and failed to address their concerns.

We know that with enough pressure, AIG will be forced to pay attention — emails from people like you are why they issued a new climate policy in the first place!

Tell AIG to answer to Indigenous communities by ending coverage for all new tar sands projects and protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Send an email to top AIG executives >>

Thanks for doing your part to hold AIG accountable,

Hannah
