Trump is trying to cause a massive undercount

This is a catastrophe waiting to happen. NPR just reported that the Trump administration is slashing their deadline for census canvassing by a month. Here’s what an anonymous Census Bureau employee had to say about it:

"It's going to be impossible to complete the count in time...I'm very fearful we're going to have a massive undercount.”

This is intentional. Trump failed to add a citizenship question to the census to score some cheap political points. His most recent executive order will almost certainly be struck down. So now, he’s resorting to sabotaging the very process of administering the census itself.

A massive undercount equals less representation for traditionally Democratic areas and less funding for public resources. Team AOC is working to counteract that, but we need your support. Will you rush a donation?

We know that political campaigns don’t ordinarily contact people to help fill out the census. But as Alexandria has made clear from the very beginning, we’re not just about one election. This movement is about fighting for New York’s 14th and the working people of this country. That means going above and beyond the call of duty.

Experts estimate that 2 out of every 7 people in New York’s 14th may not fill out the census. Many other urban areas face a similar dilemma. People, especially our undocumented neighbors, are afraid that their census information could be used against them since Trump has tried to weaponize it in the past.

That’s why we need to contact people directly to assuage those fears, talk to them about the importance of taking the census, and ensure our public services are funded. But right now, our team is running behind on a critical end-of-month deadline.
