Jimmy Patronis wants to make machine guns legal again. He wrote the bill himself.

The Gun Lobby Is Thrilled.

A machine gun fires as fast as you can hold the trigger down. That’s exactly why new ones have been illegal to sell in America since 1986.

In May 2026, Patronis introduced a bill to undo that ban. He’s the only name on it. His defense: “Why do we continue to put more impediments to owning firearms?”

A gun lobby group called his bill “one of the most important Second Amendment bills introduced in a generation.” Gun violence prevention groups called it dangerous.

He didn’t stop with machine guns. In August 2026, he joined nearly fifty Republicans pushing to make silencers and short-barreled rifles easier to get too. He’s a sitting congressman writing the bills that could put automatic weapons back on the shelf.

He Fired A Woman For Saying No To A Shakedown.

Six days before his 2018 election, a former employee sued him. Christine Taul says she was invited to a fundraiser and told to bring a check. When she said no, she says she lost her job.

Patronis’s office called the claim “completely false.” The case went to court anyway. He’s never had to answer for it in front of voters.

She’s Spent A Decade Fighting Gun Violence. He Keeps Trying To Make It Worse.

Gay Valimont didn’t start in politics. After the Sandy Hook school shooting, she became her state’s lead organizer against gun violence. Under her, that chapter grew by more than 400 percent.

While Patronis was writing a bill to legalize machine guns, she was building the group working to keep guns out of the wrong hands in the first place.

Most of her individual donations this year came in under $200 each, campaign filings show. That’s how a grassroots campaign beats a man who’s used to asking for bigger checks.
