Kristi Noem Caught Lying On Live TV, The World Says No To Trump, and Gov. Spanberger Voids GOP ICE Arrangement, Rebuilds DEI Initiatives On Day 1
Plus, Dems take a hard stand against Trump’s abusive federal agents
I’m glad you’re here for today’s news brief. We aren’t just reacting to Trump’s chaos, we’re actively building the infrastructure to stop him. The resistance is alive, organized, and gaining ground.
To harness our momentum, we’ve launched the Midterm Accountability Project. It’s our roadmap to taking back Congress and ending Trump’s authoritarian agenda for good. Our reporting and organizing are free of all corporate influence—but that means our amazing community fuels everything we do. MLK DAY
In honor of MLK Day, I wanted to revisit my conversation with MLK III. The son of the civil rights icon warned that Trump adds “lighter fluid” to fires instead of putting them out, and said the Trump regime is seeking to “segregate our nation.”
MLK III made it clear that this is not the America his father dreamed about, saying the American spirit is defined by people who “come wanting to help” during tragedy, no matter who you are. He emphasized that we must elevate good people who treat “humankind with humanity, with justice, with dignity, with respect.”
As he told me: “We have to be the change … And if love is not yet won, then victory is not yet won.”
SPANBERGER MAKES MOVES
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger was sworn in on Saturday in front of a crowd of around 5,000 supporters.
Spanberger then immediately got to work—signing ten executive orders after the ceremony. “Today, we are responding to the moment,” she said. “We are setting the tone for what Virginians can expect over the next four years: pragmatic leadership focused on lowering costs and delivering results.”
One of those orders rescinded a mandate from former GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin that required state and local law enforcement to play the role of federal immigration agents in certain situations. In another order, Spanberger reinstated DEI initiatives, reversing Youngkin’s dismantling of those programs.
NOEM EMBARRASSED ON SUNDAY SHOW
Yesterday, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem got called out while trying to spread her propaganda. When Noem was asked about the ICE officer who killed Renee Nicole Good, Noem feigned outrage, saying that identifying Officer Jonathan Ross was dangerous doxxing. It was a sad attempt to deflect, as the officer’s name is already public knowledge.
And Noem unraveled when the host called out one of her lies. Noem claimed that 70% of the people arrested by immigration agents had criminal backgrounds, before she was brutally fact-checked with her own agency’s data—which puts the figure at 47%. So of course Noem kept lying and called the Trump regime’s numbers wrong. It was absolutely unhinged.
PUSHBACK AGAINST ICE
Speaking of ICE, Democrats are taking a much bolder stand against the agency—as they should. Dem Rep. Eric Swalwell said that if elected governor of California, he would take away ICE’s “immunity,” direct law enforcement “to prosecute” agents, and revoke their “driver’s licenses.” Swalwell added: “Good luck walking to work, a**holes.”
Meanwhile, Dem Sen. Ruben Gallego is calling for ICE to be “totally torn down.” And Dem Rep. Robin Kelly, who has filed articles of impeachment against Kristi Noem, told the DHS Secretary: “You have violated your oath of office and there will be consequences.”
PROTESTS IN GREENLAND AND DENMARK
Protests took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, and in Nuuk, Greenland, over the weekend. Thousands took to the streets to demonstrate against Trump’s plans to invade Greenland. Folks held signs that read “Yankee Go Home” and “No Annexation Without Representation,” and wore red hats that said “Make America Go Away.”
A local carpenter in Nuuk, Larserak Matthiessen, stated: “Our land is not for sale. They think they can just walk in here with a checkbook? This isn’t real estate—this is our home.” And the Premier of Greenland, Múte B. Egede, said: “We are not for sale, and we cannot simply be taken.”
I’m glad people around the world are sounding the alarm, but they can’t vote to stop Trump. That responsibility falls squarely on us.
That’s why we launched our Midterm Accountability Project. We’re pressuring Congress more than ever, dominating the narrative on social media, demolishing conspiracy theories, and giving you the truth every single day. And it’s all leading to us taking back the House and Senate.
We do it all without ads or billionaires—but we need your help. Upgrade to a paid subscription today and let’s lead the resistance to victory over Trump:
Onward!

I have three questions for you today:
How can we best respond to politicians who post MLK quotes today but are firmly against everything Dr. King truly stood for?
What do you think about the anti-Trump protests abroad?
What are your thoughts about how Gov. Spanberger kicked off her new administration?

JUST A FEW OF MANY COMMENTS:
I'm just going to quote President Obama's message today:
"Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his life fighting for equity and justice. He taught us that even in the face of intimidation and discrimination, we must never stop working towards a better future – a lesson that feels especially relevant today.
Change has never been easy. It takes persistence and determination, and requires all of us to speak out and stand up for what we believe in. As we honor Dr. King today, let’s draw strength from his example, and do our part to build on his legacy."
Go Abigail, go!
ICE needs to be defunded, disbanded and investigated for the crimes committed by them in Minneapolis and elsewhere. Johnathan Ross needs to be arrested for the murder of Renee Nicole Good.
No doubt the United States needs an immigration department as well as immigration officers, but the stain that ICE has brought to America from Christie Noem through Homeland security has been nothing, but it’s disgrace and needs to be terminated. They found out the hard way that Americans don’t like to be subjugated by Brown shirt, Gestapo and masks getting thrown in unmarked vehicles, etc..
The ICE acronym needs to be eliminated and a new department that understands the value of human life. All human life.
Amen!
Also, the officers who denied a doctor's request to render medical assistance to Renee and the officers who refused to move their vehicles to allow an ambulance to reach her need to be prosecuted as accomplices to her murder.
I cannot fathom the level of human deprivation that allows someone to refuse medical assistance to a dying woman!!
It’s just sickening how that all went down with Renée. That guy is a murder and he needs to pay for what he did. Have you seen? His on go fund me with three accounts totalling about $1 million I went onto each one of them and filed a report he’s a murderer. They’ll get him he’ll pay for that crime he can’t hide forever.
I didn’t see that he had gofundme accounts set up, but unfortunately I can't say that the amount donated surprises me. Maga will do anything to perpetuate their hatred!
AGREE! Impeach this Ice Barbie
We need to remind ourselves of Dr. King’s full initiatives, which were considerably more advanced than what we have accomplished. We are going backward under Trump. Noem lies as much as her boss Trump, and like JD Vance, Noem is a lousy liar. I am delighted to see the world telling Trump no, and we need to do it also with much more emphasis. Gov. Spangenberger is doing the right thing by reinstating DEI.
I have always loved that other countries make their feelings and thoughts about trump known to the whole world. I love all protests against trump, and I know trump is just the symbol for all of his administration. Keep on keepin' on!!
My response to any politician who quotes MLK, but doesn’t act on his message: MLK exuded COURAGE. For the sake of Americans and the rest of the world, show COURAGE, stand up and fight for Democracy.
Abigail Spanberger is 💯% on target. She is savvy and action packed for the betterment of Virginians and an example for all governors.
I worry the 1,500 paratroopers in Alaska are really meant for the invasion of Greenland and are not going into Minnesota. What do you think?
Yes. It's a staging maneuver "covered up" by the Minnesota story. They think they're being clever, but it's obvious to anyone who knows a little about the military and tactics.
Starting to look like a false flag from people who can see with their eyes and have their own information that our armies are aimed for Greenland where they say the first 10,000 US soldiers who hit the beach will come home in body bags. How you like that sh#t MAGOTS!?!?!?!
I worry for ALL who are serving and their families! But yes. This.
I have been thinking exactly the same thing. Leave it to a draft dodger to play war with other people's lives/country. I don't know how we would recover from such an unjust invasion.
agreed, I just listened to The Black Spy Podcast
I've been a paid subscriber to his Substack for a long time. He's usually dead on.
If Trump tries this, we could well be looking at a large regional war, if not WW III.
Scott, the most sensible thing I could write today:
was to quote Lorde:
"I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own." — Audre Lorde
That said though....
Dolly turned 80: Icon, Ally, Legend—Today the patron saint of rhinestone-covered radical kindness turns 80. Nine times she's come out swinging for LGBTQ+ rights: from writing "family is family" in 1991, to calling out Christians for judging, to defending trans bathroom access ("if I have to pee, I'm gon' pee"), to gifting a bejeweled guitar to Texas drag queen Brigitte Bandit during the state's anti-drag crusade. She wrote "Travelin' Thru" for Transamerica. She made sure marriage equality was policy at Dollywood after staff turned away a lesbian patron. At 80, she's still teaching us that fierce love isn't soft—it's steel wrapped in sequins.
I think the protests in Greenland are awesome! I’m glad The Felon is getting a reality check from the rest of the world. But honestly… I am absolutely cringing with humiliation! The hats… “make America Go Away.” I used to travel a lot. Now I’m too ashamed to go anywhere 😭
We owe it to each other to disobey unjust actions.
“As citizens, we knew we had ceded some of our individual rights to society in order to live together as a community. But we did not believe this social contract included support for an immoral system. Since the people invested government with its authority, we understood that we had to obey the law. But when law became suppressive and tyrannical, when human law violated divine principles, we felt it was not only our right, but our duty to disobey. As Henry Thoreau strongly believed, to comply with an unjust system is to accept abuse. It is not the role of the citizen to follow the government down a path that violates his or her own conscience.” - John Lewis
Noem also said, "We can't trust our government anymore." When the interviewer replied, "You ARE the government." Noem responded "Yes, that's what I'm saying."
I found my mouth wide open for a minute after she said that. And then it was just dropped by the interviewer. That was that. Noem is a straight up pathological liar and sociopath. She's as ugly outside as she is inside.
Holy Moly. Is she a member of MENSA?
In answer to Scott Dworkin’s questions:
Q1) How can we best respond to politicians who post MLK quotes today but are firmly against everything Dr. King truly stood for?
A1) We need to keep calling them out loudly and clearly for their hypocrisy. The main problem with that, however, is that any coverage, whether mainstream or cable news programs, or social media sites that report that hypocrisy will not be heard or viewed by those who need to hear it. Those that are still supporting DJT are living in their own reality bubble and scoff at those who disagree with them.
Q1) What do you think about the anti-Trump protests abroad?
A1) I think they are awesome! It’s amazing to me that those overseas can clearly see how dangerous DJT and his enablers are to the free world, and the damage they are doing to America and our standing on the world stage, but a disturbing percentage of those here in America cannot. I don’t know what will wake up the R’s in Congress to take appropriate action to stop the literal and figurative carnage the DJT regime is causing.
Q1) What are your thoughts about how Gov. Spanberger kicked off her new administration?
A1) Hopefully, she has set the wheels in motion for other Governors to put on their big-girl pants and bring some sanity back to government. I find it incredible that it is almost always women who have the proverbial “balls” to stand up for what’s right and take the proper action to move things in a better direction. Perhaps it’s because women learned early on how to handle a 2-year-old’s temper tantrum, or is able to deal with a house full of sullen teenagers, or is able to diffuse a volatile situation with just “the look”, or is uniquely able to multi-task without breaking a sweat. Whatever it is, we need more "Spanbergers" in government.
The Receipts ARE being gathered and the Receipts MUST be gathered for Nuremberg Trials for ALL of the people in this corrupt regime that are more interested in kissing up to Trump and doing his - Revenge, Retribution, and Extortion than serving America and others! Trump action into Greenland could start WWIII with our allies against us. And a massive majority of Americans do NOT support any of this. This will serve as a test of Republican courage (or their continuing lack of courage) - will they finally stand up to Trump or FAIL AGAIN? And serve as more evidence that they ALL have NO business in government and must be defeated everywhere in America! It is just more of Trump the bully and never having anyone tell him NO! He is living his life like Roy Cohn (and his selfish me only and always upbringing taught him) told him - attack anyone and everyone all the time. He is NOW surrounded by criminals that are egging him on because what he is doing is what they want and have wanted to do for a long time. That is why it is so important to gather the Receipts and then USE THEM against these monsters! No escape from accountability for any of them!!
The entire world has gone crazy and is being taken over by haters and people who just do not care. COVID played a big part in this. I cry for all the people who have died, families torn apart, people living in fear and all the children by people who just want more money and that is all they care about - power and money. What kind of power will they really have when the working class has been shot down so far that they can't work? All I know is they can't take away our spirit. They can't take away our rights for freedom and they can't take away the love and compassion and kindness we have for others. I pray every day to Yahweh and ask for His mercy. I pray for mercy for everyone in this world. Will we be going to war because of Greenland? And Trump is also frothing at the mouth over Canada. When someone is that insane, you never know.
Incredibly sad and embarassed about our country. Many knew what drumpf is and where this would be going. And, here we are. The BS of Reagans "shining light on the hill" and American exceptionalism in a twisted display, showing how small minded and selfish many can be -- the current price of eggs versus the fate of democracy. Some unwilling to suffer a bit of hardship (i.e., wearing a mask during a global pandemic and teaching their own children at home) to accepting the known corruption, even to the violence of an insurrection. Unfathomable to me still that this tarnished gold individual conned so many people again and that we now have armed patrols on the streets and are threatening all on the globe. I'm appreciative of the world standing up and protesting what is happening here. And, hopefully we'll see more people rising here, coming out of their hibernation, and standing up for our freedoms through peaceful nonviolent protest.
"I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.” MLK
