… Democratic State Rep. J.D. Scholten announced that he is running against Sen. Joni Ernst after her flippant and callous comment at a town hall where she downplayed cuts to Medicaid since “we are all going to die,” then made it worse by issuing a sarcastic fake apology video where she equated concern about losing Medicaid to believing in the Tooth Fairy.
… Scholten told Politico he had been considering a run for a while, but Ernst’s Medicaid comments made the decision for him: “I just felt, you know, I have to do this. Now’s the time, and rather than being perfect with everything, I just feel like you got to do it. We’re taking them off Medicaid, so billionaires can have a second yacht, so they can have a bigger tax break. We have a system that’s geared towards and favors billionaires and huge multinational corps, and that’s not working for most of Iowa.”
