Ron Filipkowski on Today's Uncovered Ron Filipkowski Apr 16 It was a big show with some big breaking news items from today and a deep dive on some of the bigger long-term stories like tariffs and Ukraine. I talked about how Trump is having to make plans to bail out US farmers again as his trade war hurts them directly probably more than any other segment of the American economy. Of course, he is only doing this because they are overwhelmingly in red states and are mostly his voters. I also talked a lot of about the different levers China has to hurt us and how strategically they are playing the long game and have prepared for this scenario while we haven’t. We also talked about Fed Chair Powell’s statement today about the state of the economy due to Trump’s policies, which sent the markets into a tailspin. We talked about JD Vance, Elon Musk and even Mark Zuckerberg using Trump’s tariffs to leverage and coerce right-wing changes domestically in other countries like the UK and the EU more broadly. I went into more detail on Steve Witkoff’s meeting with Putin and the comments both he, Trump and the Kremlin made about it after. I talked about how Trump has opened up a new front from the Project 2025 playbook by going after universities, which began with Harvard this week but is going to happened to many other colleges. Of course, we also covered the two big stories breaking today - Judge Boesberg finding the Trump Admin in criminal contempt, what his order said exactly, and how this is likely to play out. The other one was the firing of the Hegseth aide who leaked to the press Elon Musk’s planned secret briefing at the Pentagon to learn about war plan contingencies regarding China.
