Pantsuit Politics Meets MeidasTouch: Real Talk From Red State AmericaWe joined forces with the brilliant Kentuckians behind Pantsuit Politics to cut through the noise, uplift real values, and call out Trump’s cruelty and cowardice.
By Ben Meiselas I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—independent media is the beating heart of this democracy. So when I had the chance to bring together two of the strongest, smartest voices in political commentary—Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers of Pantsuit Politics—I jumped on it. We hosted this live conversation on Substack because I believe these are the moments that actually move people. And let’s be honest: we need that movement now more than ever. Sarah and Beth aren’t just brilliant podcasters and Substack creators—they’re Kentuckians, moms, and fierce truth-tellers. They’ve been doing this for ten years, way before it was cool to start a podcast. They’ve built a thoughtful, values-based show that manages to tackle everything from physician-assisted death to trade wars with curiosity and compassion. And they do it from the heart of a red state. During our talk, we dug into what’s happening on the ground in Kentucky—how folks are being hammered by Trump’s trade wars, how natural disasters are exposing the cruelty of GOP policies, and how Governor Andy Beshear is offering a blueprint for empathetic, principled leadership. As Sarah put it, you earn trust by showing up. Not by pretending to ride in on a golden escalator with AI-generated beach pics and made-up stories about your ex calling to take you back. I asked them point blank: how does anyone still vote for a guy who so clearly despises this country, who shows zero empathy when American troops die or when states like Kentucky suffer devastating floods? Their answer? Most people aren’t obsessively tuned into politics like we are. They’re just trying to survive. So if all they see is a flash of Trump in Home Alone 2 or a cherry-picked TikTok clip of Biden, that shapes their view. But that’s why we’re here. Why we do what we do. Why you show up, week after week. As Beth said, we’re campaigning for humanity—not an office. That means organizing locally, running for office, speaking up at meetings, and building power from the ground up. As Sarah reminded us, when the right knows they’re losing, they double down with anti-democratic tactics. That’s not strength. That’s fear. And I want to be clear: we don’t need our own version of Rogan or Tucker. We don’t need to launder the oligarchy with misogyny and lies. We need to uplift. We need empathy, community, curiosity, and courage. That’s what Pantsuit Politics brings. That’s what you bring. That’s what we’re building—together. So if you missed this week’s Substack Live, go watch it. Subscribe to Pantsuit Politics and their brilliant Substack. And let’s keep campaigning for humanity—every single day. Because the future is ours to write. |
