That's what NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson told my colleague Garrison Hayes in an exclusive interview last week—part of which we just published—about the stakes of Trump's campaign for reelection. As I've written, Trump has compared his political enemies to "vermin" and alleged immigrants are "poisoning the blood of our country."
Johnson told Garrison that the NAACP is focused on trying to increase voter turnout because the upcoming election is "about whether or not we have democracy or we have fascism. Period. Full stop.”
Check out more from Johnson's interview with Garrison, including what he had to say about how Trump has emboldened white supremacy. And stay tuned for more clips from the interview we'll be dropping later this week.

MOTHER JONES MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
An important update on our finances
We’re falling behind our online fundraising goals—and we can’t sustain coming up short on donations month after month. It is impossibly hard in the news business right now, and the crisis facing journalism and democracy isn’t going away anytime soon.
Neither is Mother Jones. Which is exactly why, despite the challenges we face, we just took a big gulp and joined forces with the Center for Investigative Reporting, which creates the amazing podcast and public radio show Reveal and other investigative projects.
