The Washington Post reports Florida Governor Ron DeSantis's political team compiled a list of the state's top 40 lobbyists and around 100 of their "Suggested Clients to target" for political contributions, as revealed by a fundraising document scrutinized by The Washington Post. Beside each lobbyist's name was a monetary figure representing the requested amount they should raise based on their client base, which included major corporations like Disney and Motorola, sports organizations, billionaires, and interest groups with significant business interactions in the state. The document aimed for nine lobbyists to raise at least $1 million each for DeSantis's political action committee, the state, and the Republican Governors Association. The fundraising strategy included allowing lobbyists to offer perks like golf outings and meals with DeSantis in exchange for contributions. This practice raises concerns about access for wealthy donors and the intersection of fundraising and state policies. While DeSantis's spokesperson emphasized that campaign contributions do not determine his policies, these revelations could impact his image and political ambitions as he runs for president.
