Every two years, at the start of the new Congress, POGO releases a set of 13 nonpartisan policy recommendations for the new roster of policymakers. We call it our Baker’s Dozen. Woven through the Baker’s Dozen this year is a call to preserve the integrity of policymaking. We know that the public’s trust in the government is near an all-time low, not least because of the corruption we can all see festering in the ranks. POGO is pushing Congress to fortify the guardrails against insider trading, unchecked lobbying, conflicts of interest, and foreign influence. And we’re not just coming to Congress with words — we’ve created a ready to use, actionable to-do list. Check out the Baker’s Dozen on our website to see our recommendations for a more accountable, effective government. Spurthi Kontham Digital Writer and Strategist Project On Government Oversight P.S.: Last week’s edition of my newsletter, The Bridge, covered a troubling pattern that’s been amplifying our concern about foreign influence on our government. To see what corruption can look like in action — and understand precisely what we’re trying to fix with the Baker’s Dozen — read last week’s edition of The Bridge now.
