Mark Meadows Was Registered To Vote In Three States At The Same Time, Report Says
Meadows was registered to vote in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, when North Carolina removed him as an active voter last week, according to state voting records obtained by the Washington Post, which first reported the news.
Meadows is still registered to vote in both Virginia, where he purchased a townhouse in 2017, and South Carolina, where he bought a nearly $1.6 million house in 2021, the Post reports.
In March, the New Yorker reported Meadows had registered to vote at a single-wide mobile home in the mountains of North Carolina in September 2020.
The Post reports the overlap occurred for about three weeks, but could have lasted longer if Meadows’ voting record in North Carolina did not start to receive scrutiny after the New Yorker report questioned if Meadows had ever lived at—or owned—the address he listed on his voter registration in the state.
Meadows registered to vote in South Carolina about two weeks after the publication of the New Yorker article, which made him registered in all three states from about the end of March to mid-April, according to voting records.
Ben Williamson, a spokesperson for Meadows, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Forbes, but declined to comment to the Post.
KEY BACKGROUND
Meadows, a former congressman, sold his home in Sapphire, North Carolina in March 2020 before moving to a townhouse in Virginia near Washington, D.C. to begin his position at the White House, the New Yorker reports. As former President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, Meadows regularly voiced false claims that Trump lost the 2020 election due to widespread voter fraud. Neighbors and the former owner of the North Carolina trailer told the New Yorker there is no evidence Meadows purchased or ever lived at the residence, where he voted absentee in the 2020 election. North Carolina election officials removed Meadows from the active voter list earlier this month after they found documentation that he voted in the 2021 election in Virginia.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The results of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation’s probe into whether Meadows broke the law when he registered to vote, and voted absentee from, the address listed for the mobile home in North Carolina. Meadows has not commented on the allegations, and a spokesperson for the SBI told local news outlet WRAL the investigation is still ongoing.

After years at the center of political power, Mark Meadows now faces legal jeopardy
excerpt:
Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows has offered the most stunning revelations yet in the congressional investigation into the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
Meadows, a former congressman with a reputation as a conservative disrupter, now faces possible prosecution for abruptly cutting off his cooperation with the House committee investigating the attack.
For Meadows, it's the latest chapter in a career defined by conflict in Washington.
Meadows was first elected to Congress after North Carolina's 11th Congressional District was redrawn in 2011, turning it decidedly red. The Democrat who held the seat, Heath Shuler, a former NFL quarterback, decided not to run for re-election.
