We’re glad that John Kasich has recognized the importance of supporting a Biden-Harris ticket. We hope that he can convince more people of the reality that Donald Trump is an existential threat to our democracy and nation at large.
But let’s be extremely clear about something: An anti-choice, anti-worker Republican does not get to decide who represents the Democratic party. Period. And he absolutely does not get to compare Alexandria to “far-right” figures that define the Republican party.
Our progressive platform is not just true to working-class principles. Many of our policies are overwhelmingly popular with Democratic voters. Kasich can’t erase that. Will you donate to help us fight for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and more?
Building a coalition to save the soul of our nation does not mean we must forgo our values. Kasich’s role is not to critique the leaders of our party, because he has dedicated his career towards undermining our core mission.
Kasich signed one of the most restrictive abortion restriction bills in the country. He has a history of busting unions. His speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention should not be seen as an endorsement of those values.
In building bridges to win critical victories, it is vitally important to not lose sight of the direction of our party.
