Congress goes home this week.
By Friday they’ll be back in their districts, standing in front of chamber of commerce breakfasts and Rotary lunches and county fairs. For a few weeks they have to look at us instead of at each other. Every one of them knows what August is: when a member finds out whether their voters are paying attention.
We’ve spent all year making them uncomfortable in Washington. Now they come to us.

For decades volunteers stood at the back of naturalization ceremonies with clipboards, and people could register to vote in the minutes after they took the oath. The League of Women Voters signed up more than 122,000 new voters that way in 2024 alone.
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) shut it down in August 2025. The change took effect the same day it was announced—with no public comment period—and after that only state and local election officials were allowed to help.
The National Council of Jewish Women’s Greater New Orleans section sued in November. The League of Women Voters followed, and the cases were consolidated.
Judge Adam Abelson blocked the ban on Monday and found it was likely driven by discriminatory intent. In the same policy, USCIS had swapped the words “naturalization candidate” for “alien”—including for people who had already taken the oath and become citizens—and dropped the requirement that new citizens be handed a copy of the Constitution and a voter’s guide.
The 2017 rules are back in force while the case proceeds. The volunteers can stand at the back of the room again.
GRISWOLD ANSWERED THEM IN ONE LINE

On December 1 the DOJ emailed Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold an agreement to sign that demanded she hand over every voter’s name, birthdate, address, and either their driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number. The department assured her it “cures all potential concerns a state might rightfully raise” about private data.
Griswold answered two days later: “We will not be producing unredacted voter files or signing the MOU.” So the regime sued her.
The law requires the Justice Department to state a basis and a purpose when it demands records. Judge Philip Brimmer, appointed by George W. Bush, found the December email did neither, calling itself only a follow-up to correspondence that began in May. The May letter never asked for the private file at all.
He dismissed it with prejudice and closed the case, finding that letting the department try again would be futile. The DOJ has gone after states across the country for their voter rolls and lost every case so far—twenty times now. At least eight of those rulings came from judges Trump appointed himself.
$19 BILLION WENT LOOKING FOR FRIENDLIER

Energy Storage Solutions wanted to drop a $19 billion, 900-megawatt data center in Kingsboro, North Carolina—using as much electricity as more than 700,000 homes, in a county of about 49,100 people. Commissioners had already rewritten the zoning ordinance to let it happen.
Janice Bulluck, an organizer with Edgecombe Neighbors for Data Center Accountability, spoke at the December 1 meeting, in a room packed with residents wearing red. James Wrenn reminded the board that Edgecombe stopped a regional hazardous waste dump near Conetoe in 1988 and an IBP hog slaughterhouse in Kingsboro in 1996.
David Batts, 69, who lives about a mile from the site, warned commissioners that residents would primary them, and in March he beat four-term incumbent Donald Boswell.
County Manager Eric Evans announced on July 6 that the company had pulled out. Energy Storage Solutions President Dan Shaffer didn’t dress it up in an email to the Rocky Mount Telegram five days later—investors “insisted that we move forward with other projects that we have in friendlier communities.”
On Monday night, the commissioners adopted a 24-month moratorium on data centers. It passed unanimously.

Reuters and Ipsos polled 4,505 Americans from July 29 through August 3 and asked how Trump is handling their cost of living. Only 23% approved, 70% disapproved, and 51% of the country disapproved strongly.
Voters named cost of living as the single biggest factor in their vote this November—well ahead of immigration. Registered voters now trust Democrats over Republicans to handle it, 39 to 32. On the economy overall, the Republican advantage that survived Biden’s entire presidency is gone.
Trump’s overall approval sits at 35. Forty-eight percent of the country strongly disapproves, and among independents that number is 49. Quinnipiac put him at 32 last week, an all-time low in their polling, with 68% saying he is not focused enough on the problems most Americans are facing.
But polls don’t vote, and that’s where we come in. We dig up the stories corporate media will never touch. We put them in front of millions every day on social media. Then we organize pressure campaigns—with countless calls and more than 800,000 letters sent to Congress from our operation since November 2024.

The Kingsboro story gives me so much hope. When folks wear red, fill the commission room, and show up at the ballot box, big money loses every single time. 5–0 unanimous vote! Proof that showing up locally changes everything.
That huge gap among independent voters in Ohio is the headline of the summer. When a candidate spends that much money and can't break a tie with a candidate who spent exponentially less, it shows where voter sentiment actually is—NOT where the big money wants it to be. BOOM! 💥 💪 🇺🇸
Just imagine what Musk and the big money boys are thinking this morning!?! LOL They can take their money and .... well ,you know! They could help build larger shelters for dogs and cats and other surrendered pets so that they aren’t euthanized (killed) because the shelter is full and there is no food.
The amount of money spent on elections sickens me when there are so many people and pets in need in this country.

In recent years, I've seen voters turning from big-bucks candidates toward candidates who have less money for campaign ads but who are addressing the actual issues that voters are concerned about. I hope this is a trend that will continue to increase - especially when the big bucks are coming from extremely wealthy candidates themselves and/or hugely wealthy supporters like Elon Musk.
I agree. I will not vote for anyone taking money from wealthy donors. There is always a hook attached to that money so that the candidate is beholden to that donor and his wants.

I want congress to unilaterally undo Citizens United! I also want the tax code addressed in a way that taxes higher income at a higher rate so we don't have to worry about Social security and Medicare collapsing. The cap on paying into Social security needs to be increased to at least $250000 instead of the current $184500. And I want the ERA ratified!

Thanks Scott - the stories of State AG’s standing together and standing up to the current Administration is, to me, the most hopeful story of our present time. It certainly was not clear six or seven months ago that this would occur or how it might turn out - but it is very hopeful to see nonetheless.
As an AZ resident, I find it especially encouraging to see our AG Kris Mayes, a former Republican who walked away from her party over ‘U-No-Who’, stand up to the regime repeatedly and effectively. She is currently running for reelection and hammering home the ways she has stood above party affiliation and backed the citizens she was elected to represent. Last cycle she wouldn’t even mention her opposition to the current administration. Today she’s running on her opposition to fascism. That is a sea change in a purple-ish state.
I know these stories do little for sane citizens who reside in states where their own state government is complicit with the administration in providing them with voter files for what can only be nefarious purposes. But to them I say, ‘Hang tough’. It appears that more than half of America may have temporarily returned to their senses in the nick of time.
I want to know why Republicans are okay with the entire world hating Trump. I want to know why after all the clear treasonous grifting and destruction of the Constitution that they cannot support articles of impeachment. They could complain all the time about President Biden and Obama but nothing is said or done about Trump's disgusting behavior. There is no forgiving that. This is not what the American people are about. Republicans need to know that there is no trust in their dirty party at all.

Do Senior Citizens know that Social Security is under attack by the Trump administration? They call it "revising or updating social security" but you know what that means.

After we get rid of t.rump, Jena Griswold needs to run for a federal office. She's bright, intelligent, and a fighter for the best of the country. Time and time again she has proven her grit. Time for younger people to get into federal office, especially women.
Oh and a few more things congress needs to correct: get rid of the electoral college; increase SCOTUS judges to 12, one for each federal district and ban stock trading by all government employees that have access to "inside information " which includes congressional aides, etc. If I've forgotten anything please let me know.
It's entirely unlikely that the Constitution can be amended to eliminate the Electoral College - plus it will take way too long. The way to neutralize the Electoral College is to succeed in having sufficient state legislature to join the National Popular Vote Compact.

-Abolish ICE
-Get justice for all they have abused and killed
-Close every concentration camp
-Implement legislation that forbids for-profit prisons
-Hold all in DHS accountable (remove, arrest, try, convict) including Noem, Mullin, Homan, Bovino, every ICE agent, and anyone else culpable
-Ensure full transparency and accountability before receiving one dime of taxpayer money.

Data centers is still a big issue but let’s face it. Get the unredacted Epstein files out and start prosecutions. Every day there are new stories of sexual abuse and I feel like these wealthy, connected people feel like it’s ok!

The biggest issue I want congress to answer is where is the taxpayer money going, and how they intend to get it back, to be used for what was approved in budget construct. Trump does not control any disbursement of money and the fact congress is letting him do it, time to answer why, and how they will get it back. If that means taxing all the oligarchs to make the treasury whole, if that means selling the ball room for scraps, don't care, just get the money back and spend it on what was approved like preschool, snap, healthcare, national parks, everything.
Charlotte’s USCIS office is one of two in NC and since retiring and up until the Trump regime made it illegal, I volunteered with our local chapter of the League of Women Voters to register newly naturalized citizens.
Typically USCIS would hold 2 or 3 ceremonies per week with 60 - 80 people becoming citizens at each one. We usually were able to register 50 - 75% on the new citizens on the spot. We supplied 3 or 4 volunteers to attend every ceremony!
Our volunteers answered questions and helped ensure that no voter registration application was rejected. Before the ceremony, we put out information packets and small American flags on the seats, helped direct family members where to sit, and made sure the people taking the oath were seated in the right place.
Some of the ladies from LWV had been doing this for decades!
Since my congressmen are all republicans, I would sincerely love to see them look their constituents in the eyes and tell them exactly what they have done to help them. I want a fact-checker at these meetings and every time they tell a lie, the fact-checker stops them and reports the truth. I want them to stand there and let their constituents tell them why they have lost trust and respect for them because they have kissed the orange Oompa-Loompa's ass instead of working for the people who elected them. I want them to be reminded that We the People gave them their job and they have completely failed their performance review! The biggest crack in the GOP's armor going into the midterms is their corrupt leader! They bent the knee and the people of this country are fed up with it! Keep fighting, America!
