Full List of Election Deniers Who Won Their Races
Across the United States, 168 Republican "election deniers" have been elected to Congress or key state positions Tuesday, according to Newsweek analysis.
The midterm elections failed to produce a so-called 'Red Wave,' as Republicans had hoped, as control of both the Senate and House of Representatives remains in contention.
Ahead of the midterms, President Joe Biden insisted "democracy is on the ballot" due to the number of GOP candidates who rejected the 2020 presidential election result.
Before the elections, The Washington Post published a list of 291 "election deniers," defined as those who "have denied or questioned the outcome of the last presidential election," on the ballot.
These candidates were running either for Congress or one of the state-level positions of governor, attorney general, lieutenant governor, and secretary of state.
Further analysis by Newsweek found 168 of these candidates standing for Congress or top state roles had either won or were projected to do so.
Another 75 "election deniers" were defeated, with conclusive results for the remaining 48 races yet to be announced.
At 3.30 a.m. E.T., Wednesday, GOP House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy insisted Republicans would still take control of the House, commenting: "When you wake up tomorrow, we will be in the majority and Nancy Pelosi will be in the minority."
Speaking on Fox News, conservative author Marc Thiessen described the results as "an absolute disaster for the Republican Party."
The right-wing pundit urged the GOP to reject "radical candidates" going forward, and get behind candidates like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who convincingly won reelection.
Right-wing commentator Ben Shapiro admitted the GOP had "wildly underperformed," on Twitter.
He added: "There is a lot of hope for the Republican coalition given their performance with Hispanic and Black voters. But their candidate quality was poor and their leadership was either absent or counterproductive.
"Candidate quality matters -- underlying dynamics are not strong enough to drive bad candidates to victory.
"Donald Trump was a major drag on Republicans, from his picks to his antics.
"Trump picked bad candidates, spent almost no money on his hand-picked candidates, and then proceeded to c*** on the Republicans who lost and didn't sufficiently bend the knee. This will have 2024 impact."
