CC Newsletter 23 Feb - Wake Up and Smell the Fascism

Dear Friend,

No, no, the only surprise here is that the rest of the world is turning a blind eye to the risen — and I say, the rise — fascism of Modi’s India. The only surprise here is that no one in the US government noticed as Modi’s regime passed one marker of fascism, after another, after another. The only surprise here is that Americans haven’t woken up to the reality that a fascist India poses a global risk. Will we wait until this turns into an actual genocide — something that the dominant and domineering Hindu nationalist movement of India has told us, in so many words, repeatedly, over just the past three months, they want to perpetrate? Or will we wake up and smell the fascism before it’s too late?

If you think the contents of this newsletter are critical for the dignified living and survival of humanity and other species on earth, please forward it to your friends and spread the word. It's time for humanity to come together as one family! You can subscribe

The Sacralization of War,
American-Style – Reaping What We Sow
by Kelly Denton-Borhaug

Maybe, if we began listening more deeply to veterans, our understanding of the true costs of the war-culture that’s engulfed us so disastrously through the first two decades of this century would deepen. And maybe our ability to resist complicity with the way it’s been endlessly sowing the seeds of violence, anger, frustration, and fear, generation after generation, would begin to grow.

The Welshman Who Founded Donetsk, Ukraine
by Hugh J Curran

According to the historian, Professor Ronald Grigor Suny, a full-scale invasion would be a catastrophe for Russia. He notes that, economically, Russia is a declining power with a GDP equaling half of California. Russia depends on fossil fuel exports to fund most of its government services, including
the military. With such limited resources Russia should be aware that they could be mired for years in an endless war if they invaded Ukraine. It is still fresh in the memory of Russians that they spent ten long years involved in an unpopular and expensive ground war in Afghanistan.

COP-26: Dilution of Equity by the Global North
by Deva Prasad M and Navaneeth M S

The COP 26 summit agenda to sign the death knell to the coal industry, by phasing out of coal was myopic from the perspective of the developmental requirement of India and other global south countries. It was only on the insistence of India and China the “phase down” concept was
accepted. This article attempts to examine the approach of Global North towards equity requirement of providing differential responsibilities for the global south, including India.

Far reaching national interest implications of privatising DISCOMs
by E A S Sarma

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) seems to be rushing into privatising the electricity distribution systems in the Union Territories (UTs). I understand that the proposal to privatise the Chandigarh DISCOM is at an advanced stage. So is the case with the DISCOMs in Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Pondicherry and Lakshadweep. Apparently, your Ministry has not considered the strategic implications of such privatisation.
