Town of Middleborough Annual Election – Postponed to June 20, 2020 EARLY VOTING, ABSENTEE BALLOTS, POLLING HOURS, VOTER REGISTRATION

Town of Middleborough Annual Election – Postponed to June 20, 2020
Please be advised the April 4, 2020 Annual Town Election was postponed pursuant to Chapter 45, Acts of 2020. The Board of Selectmen voted to postpone the Annual Town Election to June 20, 2020 and reduce the polling hours to 10 am to 4 pm on Election Day for the safety of our election officials and voters. Ballots for the original election date will still be valid. If you have already submitted an absentee ballot, that ballot will be counted.
Early Voting: Early voting is not typically permitted for municipal elections. However, Chapter 45 of the Acts of 2020 states any eligible voter may vote early by mail for any annual or special municipal or state election held on or before June 30, 2020. Any qualified voter wanting to early vote by mail may file with their local election official an application for an early voting ballot. Ballots for early voting will be substituted with absentee ballots for those voters requesting to vote early by mail in the annual election.
Early voting applications may be downloaded and printed at http://www.sec.state.ma.us/…/2020-Municipal-Early-Ballot-Ap… or requested in writing by mail to the Town Clerk’s Office c/o 20 Centre Street, Middleborough, MA 02346, by facsimile to (508) 946-2308 or via e-mail to clerkweb@middleborough.com. Please be certain to include your name and address, the election(s) for which you are requesting a ballot, and your signature on any written request. If you need the ballot mailed somewhere other than your home be sure to provide that address. Please note: Once a voter has cast an early voting ballot the voter may no longer vote at the polls on Election Day.
Absentee Voting: Under the Massachusetts Constitution absentee ballots are available for all elections to voters who are disabled, out of town on Election Day, or who have a religious belief preventing them from voting at their polling place. The new law passed permits any person taking precaution related to COVID-19 in response to a declared state of emergency or from guidance from a medical professional, local or state health official, or any civil authority shall be deemed to be unable by reason of physical disability to cast their vote in person at a polling location. Absentee ballot applications may be downloaded and printed at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/…/English-Absentee-Ballot-Appli…. As with early ballot applications, any written request is acceptable provided a signature is included.
Voter Registration: The last date to register for the Annual Town Election has been extended to Wednesday, June 10, 2020 until 8 pm in the Town Clerk’s Office. You may also register online at www.registertovotema.com up until 11:59 PM on June 10, 2020.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Town Clerk’s Office with any questions regarding the upcoming Annual Election at (508) 946-2415 or clerkweb@middleborough.com.
