Coronavirus Cape Cod: Protesters gather at Bourne Rotary to protest Barnstable County lockdown during COVID-19 pandemic

AND NO FACE MASKS!

The United Cape Patriots organized the event that took place early afternoon on Sunday.
“This is a nonpartisan event to let our elected officials know we are ready to return to work based on the steep decline in Barnstable County new (COVID-19) cases and the economic impact our most vulnerable low-income neighbors are experiencing,” the group’s founder, Adam Lange, of Brewster, said in an interview with the Cape Cod Times.
The group is hoping Gov. Charlie Baker consider lifting restrictions in counties in the state, including Barnstable, that meet the criteria for reopening.
Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno said Friday his city is “nowhere close,” to being ready to reopen from shutdowns related to the coronavirus pandemic, citing a “dramatic need” for more testing.

This seems to prove than any uninformed Whack-A-Ding can gather 100 supporters.

Ron Beaty, widely known for his offensive comments seemed to be leading
this small group of misfits.

Ron Beaty's offensive comments generated campaign contributions from
across the nation for his opponent.

Beaty, 57, is a real estate manager who served a 14-month term in federal prison for threatening to kill President George H.W. Bush and other politicians in the early 1990s. His constant tweets — in which he has called a survivor of the Parkland, Florida, school shootings an “opportunistic rat,” dismissed the #MeToo movement as “nonsense” and called for the killing of sharks with baited drum lines — led to a petition to remove him from office, although the county has no recall provision.

Ron Beaty's comments are so uninformed, irrational and outrageous, some are posted
here FWIW:

Protesters call for end to Cape shutdown
Rally mirrors demonstrations across country seeking to reopen economy.

Rally mirrors demonstrations across country seeking to reopen economy.

BOURNE — About 100 people gathered Sunday at the Bourne Rotary in protest of coronavirus-related restrictions, urging the governor and public officials to end the shutdown and “reopen Cape Cod.”

United Cape Patriots, a local grass-roots conservative group, sponsored the rally. Similar protests have sprung up across the country this past week, as the financial toll of business shutdowns and stay-at-home advisories has pitted those who want the economy reopened against those who warn that moving too quickly could bring a new wave of virus outbreaks. The current case count across the country neared 750,000 Sunday, and the tally in Massachusetts was 38,077.

The number of reported cases on Cape Cod stood at 632 Sunday, up 131 in the past week.

Most of the protesters in Bourne, waving Trump flags and holding “Reopen Our Schools” signs, were not wearing masks or protective gear, and many were not maintaining the recommended distance of 6 feet from each other.
“I was trying to maintain social distancing as best as I could,” said Adam Lange, founder of United Cape Patriots. “Some people wear them (masks), some people don’t. It’s not required.”

Gov. Charlie Baker has limited public gatherings to 10 people as part of his shutdown orders, but that does not include outdoor spaces, Lange said.

“Our objective was to get our governor’s attention in that Barnstable County achieved a two-week reduction in case rate,” Lange said. “Since April 1 we’ve been going down ... We want the governor to consider that and maybe consider that certain counties in Massachusetts can start going to work.”
Lange said many people want the Cape to “ease” back into operation, such as allowing construction and landscaping to reopen followed by other businesses.

Certain categories of landscaping and construction are on Baker’s list of essential businesses that have been allowed to remain open.
A Barnstable County health official disputed Lange’s contention that case numbers have been declining on the Cape.

“Our COVID-19 numbers continue to rise,” Sean O’Brien, director of the county Department of Health and the Environment, said via email. “The number of positive cases increased by 42 in the last 24 hours, as reported by Massachusetts Department of Public Health this afternoon. It is important that we continue to take precautions.”

The health department invited all county residents to visit the website barnstablecountyhealth.org for more information.
