Important Evening Update: Chaos at the DOJ Over Epstein Files as Trump Caught in Another Lie
Good evening, everyone. What a day. The Justice Department can’t seem to keep its story straight. Survivors of Jeffrey Epstein are publicly condemning the DOJ’s handling of the case. Donald Trump has been caught in yet another lie after previously claiming he was never on Epstein’s plane, a claim that is now clearly false. And newly released documents continue to paint a picture of chaos and confusion inside the DOJ in the days following Epstein’s death.
All of that is to say: there is a lot to unpack tonight.
And my day isn’t over yet. Later this evening, I’ll be interviewing Ro Khanna about the Epstein files, you’ll have that interview in the morning.
To everyone who has subscribed already, thank you sincerely for your support. If you’d like to back my work, keep me caffeinated, and help grow independent media as legacy outlets like CBS increasingly bend to pressure from the White House, I invite you to subscribe today.
Here’s what you missed:
A newly surfaced Truth Social from 2024 shows Donald Trump claiming he was “never” on Epstein’s plane. Today we learned that the Justice Department had documents showing that Trump was not just on Epstein’s plane, but that they were surprised he was on Epstein’s plane as often as he was:
The Justice Department said, after a two hour long investigation, that a purported note signed by Jeffrey Epstein and addressed to Larry Nassar was fake after review, noting the writing did not match Epstein’s and warning that documents released by the Justice Department are not inherently factual, despite the letter’s shocking content and a postmark dated days after Epstein’s death via the USPS.
The only problem with the DOJ’s investigation is that in 2019, the DOJ ordered a hand writing analysis of the note. The DOJ did not release the results of the hand writing analysis today. This is the request:
Deputy Attorney Todd Blanche, meanwhile, is now claiming that more “fake” documents could soon be released to the public:
Danielle Bensky, a survivor of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse, said she feels revictimized by systemic failures, accusing the Department of Justice of handling survivors carelessly and in an “abhorrent” manner.
Statement from Epstein survivor Ashley Rubright blasting the DOJ for releasing fake documents:
Statement from Epstein survivor Marijke Chartouni:
More documents show the Justice Department discussing memos concerning “co-conspirators” but these memos have not been released to the public:
Newly released records show confusion and poor communication after Jeffrey Epstein’s Aug. 10, 2019, death, with the U.S. Marshals Service notifying the U.S. Attorney’s Office even as the death was already public, prompting frantic complaints that prosecutors lacked basic facts such as the time and cause of death.
Documents released by the Department of Justice in the Jeffrey Epstein case were found to have flawed redactions that can be easily reversed, revealing allegations about payments, concealment of abuse, and financial misconduct, raising questions about DOJ transparency and compliance with redaction standards
The Supreme Court blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to deploy National Guard troops in Illinois, ruling that the president lacked legal authority to federalize and deploy the Guard for immigration enforcement purposes over state objections, thereby setting limits on presidential power in such situations.
According to The Guardian, the Department of Veterans Affairs halted abortion services for veterans — including in cases of rape or incest — after a Department of Justice memo found the Biden-era policy legally unsound, drawing criticism that the move denies essential health care to veterans
Beginning in early 2026, the Trump administration plans to resume wage garnishment for student loan borrowers in default—starting with about 1,000 borrowers and expanding monthly—drawing criticism from advocates amid concerns that millions could soon face involuntary collections after pandemic-era payment pauses ended and repayment plans were overhauled.
According to NBC, Authorities arrested a California mother on suspicion of first-degree murder after the body of her 9-year-old daughter, Melodee Buzzard, was found in rural Utah, with investigators citing evidence of premeditation following the child’s disappearance during a multistate road trip.
According to Reuters, Venezuela’s ruling-party–controlled National Assembly fast-tracked and approved a law to criminalize oil tanker seizures and related acts, threatening up to 20 years in prison, in direct response to U.S. seizures of tankers under pressure from Donald Trump against President Nicolás Maduro and the country’s sanctions-evading oil trade.
NBC has confirmed that at least two people were killed and others injured after a suspected natural gas explosion collapsed part of the Silver Lake Nursing Home in Bristol, Pennsylvania, prompting ongoing rescue efforts and an investigation, with Gov. Josh Shapiro calling the incident catastrophic and officials citing a likely gas leak as the cause.
Libya’s top military commander, Gen. Mohamed Ali Ahmed El Haddad, and seven others were killed when a private jet crashed after takeoff from Ankara, Turkey, due to an apparent technical malfunction, cutting short high-level defense talks aimed at strengthening military cooperation between Libya and Turkey.
See you in the morning.
