August 25, 2025 - The East Middleboro 4-H Club, the oldest in the state, is set to host the East Middleboro 74th 4-H Fair over Labor Day weekend.
The fair, a long-standing community tradition, will be held at the club's grounds, nestled among East Middleborough’s rolling hay fields and dairy farms at 183 Thompson St., Route 105. The event will take place on Saturday, August 30 from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, August 31 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The fair serves as the yearly highlight for local 4-H members, providing an opportunity for them to showcase their hard work and accomplishments from the past year. Attendees can expect to see a variety of exhibits and shows, from animal displays to static exhibits. In addition to being a showcase for youth achievements, the fair is a vital fundraiser, with all proceeds directly supporting East Middleboro 4-H activities.
The club has deep roots in the community, tracing its origins back to 1949 when it was founded by Hazel Blanchard of Lolan Farms for seven neighborhood girls. It has since grown to include boys and a wider range of projects, with enrollment now open to any child ages 5-18, regardless of residency. The East Middleboro 4-H Community Committee, formed in 1950, holds the distinction of being the oldest in the state and continues to support club activities with its monthly meetings of leaders, junior leaders, and volunteers.
Blanchard’s farm is still thriving, and today is operated by her daughter, Susan, and her husband, Sam Shields.
There’s something for everyone at the fair, whether you want to throw some shoes, peg a few holes with a 29 hand, pick up a find at the auction or dress up your cat for the costume parade, the 4-H Fair is the place to be next weekend. Fairgoers can look forward to a full weekend of festivities, including:
