An Important Sunday Message

An Important Sunday Message

Tonight, I’m writing to you not just as a journalist, but as a witness to a moment unlike any other in recent memory. It’s Sunday evening, and—for once—we’re not buried under an avalanche of breaking news. And that’s a rare kind of gift.

In moments like this, I’m reminded why I do this work. Why I stay up late digging through documents. Why I’ve pushed through exhaustion to get stories out on time. And also—why I need your help to keep doing it.

This newsletter, this work, this platform—it only exists because of you. I don’t have a corporate newsroom behind me. I don’t take money from political advertisers. Everything I write, report, and share comes to you directly because you choose to support it. So if you believe this kind of journalism matters—uncensored, unbought, and unafraid—please consider becoming a paid subscriber. It’s the only way I can keep going, and it means more than I can say.

What we witnessed over the last 24 hours was nothing short of historic.

Millions of Americans came together in what may be one of the largest coordinated protests in our nation’s history: No Kings Day. It wasn’t a partisan march. It wasn’t even about just one issue. It was a declaration—from city blocks and rural crossroads alike—that authoritarianism has no place in a country built on freedom, that we are not subjects, and that this democracy belongs to all of us.

I saw signs that made me laugh, cry, and pause. I saw kids on their parents’ shoulders chanting words they barely understood but somehow still believed in. I saw older Americans—many who had marched in the '60s—linking arms with Gen Z organizers leading the charge today. And yes, to my total disbelief, I even saw signs with my face on them. I still don’t know how to process that.

But as inspiring as the protests were, there was also pain.

Yesterday, a Democratic state lawmaker was assassinated in Minnesota. Authorities believe it was a targeted act of political violence. The person responsible is still at large. It is chilling to write that sentence in 2025 America. We should all be asking: How did we get here? And more importantly—what are we going to do about it?

Because let’s be honest: we are a divided nation. Protest is met with militarized force. Lawmakers are under threat. Speech is chilled. And the President—Donald Trump, again—shows more concern with silencing dissent than listening to the people he was elected to serve.

But despite all of that, people showed up. In the millions.

They showed up because they believe in something bigger than fear. They showed up because they haven’t given up. And neither have I.

No Kings Day was more than a protest. It was a spark. A statement. A reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is still a fierce light alive in this country. And it’s coming from you—from the people.

I know a lot of us are exhausted. I am too. I’ve been working nonstop for months. I’ve reported in the middle of the night, filed stories from rest stops, and cried at my desk more times than I’ll admit. Today, for the first time in a while, I took a breath. The news allowed it. So I let myself feel it all—gratitude, grief, pride, and a strange kind of hope.

And that brings me back to you. If this newsletter has informed you, moved you, helped you feel a little less alone in this chaotic moment—please consider becoming a paid subscriber. Your support allows me to keep reporting independently, to stay fiercely honest, and to tell the stories that others are afraid to touch.

This road ahead will not be easy. We’re only a year into this presidency, and we’ve got three more to go. But I’ll be here. Holding the line. Telling the truth. And showing up for you—every single week.

Take care of yourselves tonight. We rest. Tomorrow, we fight.

With gratitude and resolve,

Aaron
