As soon as this week, the Senate could take a dangerous vote and confirm Russell Vought as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), so, we’re jumping into action.
Vought is the brain behind a memo that last week brought vital health services, lifesaving research, infrastructure investment, and more screeching to a halt. In the days since, Trump and Elon Musk have only continued their breakneck effort to hollow out the federal government, pushing us to the brink of social, economic, and constitutional crises.
But the silver lining in this horrible mess? You. Together, alongside partners across the movement, champions on the Hill, and hundreds of thousands of other activists, you’re helping remind this White House and Congress that we won’t give up our democracy, communities, and future without a fight.
It’s working. Because of the incredible and relentless activism and energy of our movement, in the first 15 days of the Trump administration we’ve already seen nomination votes pushed to the brink, memos rescinded, and policies reversed. That’s not all: Right now, Senate Democrats are digging in their heels to slow Vought's nomination every way they can, too. But slowing isn’t stopping, and that’s why every hour between now and this confirmation vote matters — and we need you with us.
Vought’s dangerous actions and ideology should disqualify him, but without more pressure, his nomination could still get the 50 Senate votes necessary for confirmation. That’s why this week, we’re getting our demands across DC with highly visible mobile billboards and posters that can’t be ignored. Will you help us get loud? |
The more political pressure Vought, Trump, and lawmakers feel now, the more cautiously they’re likely to move in the future. That’s why we can’t risk losing any of the critical momentum we’re building.
We’ve just seen a glimpse of how OMB Director Russell Vought would control federal spending and the chaos and confusion he’d bring to our government. Last week, people were locked out of Medicaid and Head Start portals, cancer treatment research stood still, tribes could not access funds to protect sacred sites, and seniors who rely on food assistance were left wondering about their next meal.
Beyond U.S. borders, soup kitchens in Sudan that feed people displaced by a genocide shut down, tuberculosis patients in Burma were given a final week’s supply of medicine, and programs that track the likelihood of famine paused. Even a Syrian prison that holds Islamic State members had to stop operations temporarily.
Even now, days after OMB rescinded its memo and multiple judges blocked its enforcement, many programs remain offline, and people across the globe are worrying about what might come next — and whether it’ll impact their ability to feed their families, pay rent, or access essential medicine.
This is no moment for business as usual. No matter the challenge, we are the people who refuse to look away — and we are the ones who will help build the future we all want and deserve: One where everyone can live and thrive in a more peaceful world. If it’s in your budget, can you take a crucial step toward that vision?
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
