Sign The Petition: Sea turtles like Gingerbread are dying from rampant plastic pollution

It takes just ONE single piece of plastic to KILL a sea turtle. Now just imagine what 24 PIECES would do to a fragile creature like Gingerbread — the baby sea turtle in Florida who weighed only as much as a carrot when 24 pieces of plastic debris were discovered postmortem in the poor animal’s tiny stomach…

Gingerbread’s death isn’t an isolated incident. Studies of similar hatchlings off the coast of Florida found that more than 90% of baby turtles have consumed plastic. In fact, about 1,000 sea turtles a year die from plastic ingestion.

And with TWO garbage trucks of plastic ending up in the ocean EVERY MINUTE, it’s certainly not hard to believe that innocent marine animals are fatally mistaking plastic debris for food.

Aside from decimating our oceans and killing marine life, plastic remains one of our planet’s biggest threats. Burning through large amounts of fossil fuels during production, industrial-sized plastic facilities are spewing toxic emissions and dirty pollutants into the environment — exacerbating the climate crisis while directly threatening the health of those nearby, most often low-wealth and BIPOC communities.

It’s time to fight back against the corporate greed of Big Plastic and its fossil fuel allies before the PLASTIC APOCALYPSE destroys the Earth. That’s why we’re urgently counting on activists like you to stand with us today. Help us build a strong coalition of grassroots environmentalists to demand immediate federal action to address the plastic crisis! Plastic stays on our planet for ages because it doesn’t naturally biodegrade. Instead, it breaks down into tiny pieces called microplastics that end up everywhere from the water we drink to the food we eat and even to the air we breathe.

Of the 16,000 chemicals used to make plastic, experts have determined at least 25% of them are hazardous to humans. These chemicals are linked to serious health concerns such as reproductive harms and risks to our cardiovascular health, kidneys, and nervous systems. It’s TRULY scary to think about the fact that the average person unknowingly consumes an entire credit card’s worth of plastic each week! Yikes!

This could be our last hope to STOP THE PLASTIC APOCALYPSE, Tony. We desperately need federal intervention if we’re going to achieve the necessary policies to curb plastic pollution.

Every moment of inaction that passes, plastic continues to accumulate and overwhelm our already-fragile planet. Will you step up right now and urge our government leaders for concrete solutions to the plastic crisis before it’s too late? Take action now! >>
