On a sunny day in June, flash floods roared through Yellowstone National Park, forcing officials to evacuate more than 10,000 visitors. No one was physically injured, but many people lost everything they had. The floods washed away houses, bridges, and even roads. The waters broke sewage lines. And they physically cut off residents' communities from the rest of the world. While scientists were initially shocked, they now say similar events will become more likely as global temperatures warm.
The impacts of extreme climate change are escalating. The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report shows that countries like the U.S. are the most responsible for emissions. That means the U.S. has a responsibility to create more ambitious climate action plans to eliminate emissions and pull more carbon from our atmosphere. If Congress doesn't pass aggressive climate action, climate crises like the Yellowstone floods will continue, and the risk of climate-related mass death and suffering will keep rising.Sign the petition to urge Congress to take action against climate change immediately!
Thank you,
Miranda
