The tragedy playing out in Boulder is the second mass shooting in a week. Our hearts are with those who are suffering right now - who will continue to suffer in the months ahead. President Biden cannot let this moment pass without addressing the national crisis of gun violence.
Marking One Month Since Biden's Inauguration
Gun violence prevention organizations from across the country just sent a clear and unmistakable message to President Biden:
The Time is Now.
After recent mass shootings in Atlanta, Chicago, and Boulder, President Biden said he does not “need to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common sense steps that will save lives.”
In an open letter, organized in part by Guns Down America, 34 gun reform groups called on President Biden to live up to those words.
Together, we are urging President Biden to:
- Personally meet with gun reform organizations and voices
- Deliver a comprehensive plan for reducing gun violence
- Take executive actions and engage Congress on legislative solutions
- Invest in the communities most impacted by gun violence
- Appoint an ATF Director who will hold the gun industry accountable
- Unveil his proposals during his joint address to Congress
Survivors of gun violence and Americans across the country have urged elected leaders to pass life saving reforms for decades, only to be told that the time is not right or that the politics are simply too complicated.
With strength and optimism,
Igor Volsky, Executive Director
