For decades, the far right has attempted to draw voting maps that silence Black, Brown, and multiracial communities. Right now, the Supreme Court is considering Louisiana v. Callais — yet another important case that could have far-reaching consequences for the right to fair and equal representation. We don’t know how the Court will rule in this case, but a ruling could potentially give states a green light to pass unfair, racially biased voting maps with little accountability. Gutting Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act could allow state legislatures to redraw maps to dilute the voting power of communities and create 19 safe congressional seats for House Republicans. It’s enough to cement one-party control of the House for at least a generation. Want to know more about what this Supreme Court case means for our democracy and how you can defend fair representation and the Voting Rights Act? We’re coming together on Wednesday, January 21, at 8:00 p.m. ET for a national activist call. RSVP here to register for Callais and the VRA: The Fight for Voting Rights. This call will bring together organizers, movement leaders, policy experts, and communicators who are on the frontlines of this fight. Whether you’re a longtime voting rights advocate or just getting involved, this call will help you get informed, get prepared, and get connected to what comes next. Join us on January 21 and stand up for the future of the Voting Rights Act! In solidarity, Christine |
