Styrofoam Collection Event
January 10, 2026 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Middleborough DPW Facility
65 Sachem Street
Are you overrun with Styrofoam from holiday packages? We’ve got the answer! Bring your Styrofoam on Saturday, January 10, 2026, to the Department of Public Works at 65 Sachem Street, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All the Styrofoam collected will be sorted and bagged and then delivered by DPW to Insulation Technologies, Inc. in Bridgewater who uses the material to make commercial and industrial products.
This collection event is being cosponsored by the Department of Public Works and our Green Sanctuary 2030 team along with Sustainable Middleborough.
The DPW will accept polystyrene foam that “snaps”. That includes packing materials, foam peanuts, coolers, cups, meat trays, egg & takeout containers and other food cartons. ALL Styrofoam MUST be clean and dry; with no tape, labels, staples, cardboard, foil backing, or other material attached; and in clear or white bags if possible. The collected material can be recycled into new products like surfboards, helmets, park benches, insulation, road beds, construction materials, and more.
You can help in two ways. Donate all your Styrofoam that day. And secondly, sign up to be a volunteer to help sort and bag the collected items. We will need folks for one or two hour shifts from 9 a.m. until about 2 p.m.There is a signup sheet on the table in the Parlor.
Styrofoam can’t be put in curbside recycling so it ends up in the landfill, thrown out after only one use. But we can give it a second life by recycling it through this collection event. By recycling Styrofoam into longer-use products, we can keep it out of our landfill, roadsides, ocean, and waterways, where it never breaks down.
Let’s all do our part to protect our Mother Earth. Donate your Styrofoam that day. Sign up to volunteer for a shift to help sort and bag the collections. Spread the word about the event to neighbors and friends.
