Over 300 new COVID-19 cases on Cape Cod and the Islands in the past week

According to the state Department of Public Health’s weekly report on Thursday, there were 7,096 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts reported in the past six days, for a total of 1,783,187 since the pandemic began.    

There were also 776 new probable cases of coronavirus, for a total of 161,132 statewide.

The DPH said that as of July 13, Massachusetts hospitals were treating 552 patients with COVID-19. Forty-six of those patients were in the ICU and 12 were intubated.    

In their report Thursday, DPH officials said Barnstable County had 278 new coronavirus cases, for a total of 41,096 since the pandemic started. There were 21 new coronavirus cases in Dukes County, for a total to date of 3,966. Nantucket County reported 12 new cases, for a total of 3,618. 

The 7-day average of percent positivity in Massachusetts was 7.87%.

DPH officials said in their Thursday report that there were 31 new fatalities among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19, for a total of 19,818 since the pandemic began.      

There were two new deaths of people with probable cases of COVID-19. The number of fatalities from probable cases is 1,250 in Massachusetts.    

In Barnstable County, two new deaths in the last six days

There were two new deaths in Barnstable County, the DPH said Thursday. The total of probable and confirmed deaths from COVID-19 is 610 in Barnstable, and 19 in Dukes and Nantucket combined.

The two-week COVID-19 case count, total case count and 14-day testing positivity rate for Cape Cod towns follows:    

Barnstable (162; 10,629; 10.9%); Bourne (41; 3,938; 6.34%); Brewster (26; 1,619; 5.83%); Chatham (17; 930; 8.85%); Dennis (58; 2,559; 10.82%); Eastham (9; 550; 8.22%); Falmouth (92; 5,060; 8.28%); Harwich (35; 2,309; 6.72%); Mashpee (50; 2,827; 8.67%); Orleans (12; 850; 6.67%): Provincetown (less than five; 467; 1.18%); Sandwich (57; 3,904; 9.7%); Truro (0; 184; 0%); Wellfleet (less than five; 300; 6.25%) and Yarmouth (101; 4,970; 11.22%).  

The state Department of Public Health recently changed its COVID-19 data reporting, publishing its report on a weekly rather than daily basis, according to the agency website.
