CC News Letter 17 May - Israel kills children, doctors in horrific nighttime massacre

Dear Friend,

Israel in the early hours of Sunday night obliterated multiple generations of families when it bombed their homes in Gaza. Around 1 am, Israeli warplanes launched a savage bombing campaign lasting at least an hour, firing 50 missiles at the area surrounding al-Wihda street in Gaza City. Without warning, the bombs hit residential buildings, bringing them down on top of those inside. The death toll from the attack has risen to 42, including 10 children and 16 women. Fifty more were wounded. Two prominent doctors were among the dead. As of Sunday evening, rescuers were still searching for survivors under the rubble. This has raised the death toll in Gaza since Israel’s bombing campaign began last Monday to at least 192, including 58 children and 34 women, according to the health ministry in the territory.

Demilitarizing the Border
by Todd Miller

And so, as I sat there, infuriated by my own fear, my hesitation about giving Juan Carlos a ride, I realized — as had Brendan many years before — that I was the one who actually needed help. I was the one who needed Juan Carlos to orient me when it came to what a more humane
world might be like.  I was the one whose spirit was thirsty and needed a drink. I was the one who needed to imagine a world in which such human-made, fortified, militarized borders melted away amid a new global consciousness and solidarity.

They tried to bury seeds
by Mirza Yawar Baig

I don’t care who is right and who is not. All I know is that killing innocent civilians, men, women and children, destroying homes and lives, is not right. All conflicts can only be solved through negotiation. Not by killing. But it looks like those who are in power everywhere are on another plane of awareness and disconnected from the massive misery and suffering they unleash in the midst of this pandemic.

by Bharat Dogra

The increasing conflict in many parts of the world and the near ruin of several once prosperous and well-resourced countries in recent times due to war, invasion and civil strife has re-emphasized the need for a strong and effective world peace which is unbiased and independent and can work with continuity. This should be created from bottom to top and cover the reduction of all types of violence, conflict and war.
