In October 2021, I had been an employee of Kellogg’s for almost 18 years. I had dropped out of college and started working for the company after my wife got pregnant. Life’s easy when all you gotta do is take care of yourself – but we needed diapers and health insurance for our growing family. Working at Kellogg’s used to be a lifelong career. A good-paying job that lets you become a homeowner, live decently, and hopefully retire someday. But over the years, that changed. Workers were paid less. Cost-of-living adjustments weren’t keeping up anywhere near inflation. Retirement and health insurance plans were gutted. It just wasn’t right. They were making record profits – and doing it off the backs of workers. So in October 2021, we walked out. And as president of our local union, I led the strike. Most of us had never walked a picket line. It was cold, but we were determined to hold our lines through the dead of winter if we had to. We were a part of something bigger than ourselves. We were in a fight for the future of the American middle class. After 11 weeks in the cold, we reached an agreement. More importantly, we saved 500 good-paying union jobs. It was one of the proudest moments of my life. Following the strike, I was fired. Someone had to pay – and as union president, my head was on the chopping block. It’s easy to let yourself get beaten down by life. To let big corporations and the politicians they own in Washington make all the decisions – and just accept that that’s how things will always be. But that’s not me. Instead, I decided last year to run against one of the most corporate politicians – U.S. Senator Republican Deb Fischer – and we nearly won. I got 47% of the vote in one of the closest Senate races in the country. Now, I’m running again for the U.S. Senate – this time against billionaire Republican Pete Ricketts – and the first poll shows us virtually TIED: 46% to 45%. I am taking on a literal billionaire senator. We can finish what we started last year and flip Nebraska’s Senate seat for working-class people, but I need grassroots donors like you to give now if we’re going to win. He looked at them and said: "These are not innocent Palestinian civilians." Blue On the Ballot Apr 26 Brian Mast chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He is the man in charge of American foreign policy in the United States Congress. Here is what the man in charge of American foreign policy has said and done. He compared all Palestinian civilians to Nazis on the House floor. He said we would not “so lightly throw around the term ‘innocent Nazi civilians’ during World War II.” He said “there are very few innocent Palestinian civilians.” When activists showed him photos of dead babies in Gaza, he said: “These are not innocent Palestinian civilians.” They asked: “The babies?” He said the people of Gaza should have elected a government that doesn’t attack Israel. Half of Gaza’s population is under 18. They cannot vote. Then he said: “And there’s more infrastructure that needs to be destroyed. Did you not hear me? There’s more that needs to be destroyed.” Help remove him A censure resolution was introduced against him. It failed along party lines. He wore an Israeli military uniform to the United States Capitol. Not a costume. Not a pin. The uniform. The Rest of His Record Before he said dead babies were not innocent, Brian Mast joked about sex with 15-year-old girls on Facebook. He joked about rape. The posts were made in 2009 and 2011. When caught, he blamed his military injury. The first post was made before his injury. His campaign manager was in the thread. He voted to overturn the 2020 election. On January 6th, in the hours after the insurrection, he voted to throw out the electoral votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania. He took over $2 million from AIPAC. More than almost any other member of Congress. This year, his biggest legislative accomplishment is a bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport after Donald Trump. It has two cosponsors. He also grilled a State Department official about whether the Biden administration was trying to “make maps more gay.” Pitch in $5 to get rid of him. That is the man running U.S. foreign policy. The Man Who Should Replace Him Bernard Taylor is a firefighter and paramedic on Florida’s Treasure Coast. He has spent his career running into emergencies, not running from questions. He grew up in Florida. He went to Sebastian River High School. He became a first responder. He joined Local 2928 of the International Association of Firefighters. He has spent years serving the same community he’s asking to represent. He is running on affordable healthcare, public education, and economic stability. He has rejected money from the Israel lobby. He signed a pledge to support term limits on Congress. He is not grilling bureaucrats about gay maps. He is not wearing foreign military uniforms to work. He is not calling dead children guilty.
