When it comes to funding our public schools, Tennessee is sitting at the bottom of the class. Our state’s public schools fall in the BOTTOM 10 in the entire nation in overall funding, while our budget sits in surplus. Those extra dollars would be crucial in closing the educational gaps our children are facing.
Two BILLION dollars — that’s what’s at stake. Two billion more dollars for teacher pay, school infrastructure, or to close literacy gaps and ensure that every Tennessean can read. Instead, policymakers are working to ensure vouchers and tax breaks for charter and private schools, while the success of our public schools hangs in the balance.
