Hey, it's Mark Kelly.
As many of you know, I served for 25 years in the United States Navy. I was lucky to work alongside people from many different backgrounds and every corner of the country.
Every day, we came together as a team to get the job done.
That's what the military does — you put aside your differences and put the mission first. That's what I aim to do in the Senate too. And that's why I'm writing today.
One of my colleagues — Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville — is holding up 250 of our most senior military promotions. Generals and Admirals with long and distinguished careers. One of them would sit on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Why is Senator Tuberville doing this? Good question.
A new Pentagon policy provides leave for members of the armed forces when they have to travel to access reproductive health care, including abortions. He doesn't like it.
We've tried working through this with him, but he refuses to compromise. So, I'm coming to you.
It’s vital to our national security that these promotions get moving as quickly as possible, so we need as many people to speak out on this as we can get.
Thank you for reading,
Mark
