In a truly disgusting show of obsequiousness to a serial human rights violator, the United States apologized to Israel for just *mentioning* the case of a Palestinian trans sex-trafficking victim who fled to Israel from the West Bank and was immediately deported. The Israeli government eventually granted her a temporary permit but refused to recognize her as a trafficking victim, denying her a work permit and leading to her eventual suicide as she was unable to find work or housing. For bringing up this case and using the name "Palestine," State Department official Emily Korenak apologized for a "serious failure."
