Clarence Thomas is unfit for the Supreme Court

Clarence Thomas is back on the Supreme Court bench, hearing cases. He's acting like nothing at all happened while he was gone, including a massive controversy over his conflict of interest, considering his wife’s involvement in the January 6 insurrection.

Reports have shown that Justice Thomas issued the lone dissenting ruling against providing the Jan 6th Committee access to crucial White House documents—including the documents that contained his wife’s messages encouraging staff to overturn the 2020 election.1

The pressure is mounting for Congress to investigate Justice Thomas. We can’t let the spotlight move on.

A damning report shows that Ginni Thomas, a MAGA activist and the wife of Clarence Thomas, directly and repeatedly pressured Trump’s top White House staff to overturn the 2020 election.2

And this isn’t the first time Justice Thomas has intervened on behalf of his wife. For years, Justice Thomas has ruled on cases involving causes that his wife is deeply involved in, including one involving the repeal of Obamacare.3

Such blatant politicization of the Court not only undermines basic principles of fairness and the rule of law, but it also erodes the remaining shreds of legitimacy this Trump-packed Court has.

If Congress fails to act, the signal to Thomas as well as his fellow far-right justices will be clear: they can get away with unethical behavior, even when it involves an insurrection against our democracy.
