Connecting the dots: transphobia's history - - - anti-trans attacks today

Transphobia is an irrational fear that is motivating our nation’s crisis of anti-trans policy and legislation. This episode of LET’S CONNECT draws a line from early 20th century attacks on trans health care in Europe, through the history of gender verification in the Olympics, to the attacks on trans youth in sports and trans health care that we are experiencing today. For more information on how to get involved, check out the next episode in the series where we'll give you a step-by-step on what you can do to stop these attacks.

the wave of anti-trans bills that cropped up across the states this year – especially attacking trans youth's rights to play sports and access health care – is a stark reminder:

Transgender people have always been here and have always belonged. But unfortunately, transphobia has a long history, too.

That's why the ACLU is breaking that history down (spoiler: it involves Nazis) and bringing today's assaults into perspective – to make sure all of us are equipped with the facts as we continue to fight for trans rights in this critical moment.

It's part of our newest video series, Let's Connect. Watch this quick, but informative 7-minute episode today.

Thanks,

The ACLU Team

P.S. Once you watch this video, be sure to catch our entire Let's Connect series – connecting the dots of critical civil liberties fights today to the historical moments that brought us here.
