House passes $28 million baby formula package, 92% of Republicans vote against
Editor’s Note: Last week after Republicans blasted the Biden administration for helping to feed immigrant babies, we noted that Republicans wanted to starve poor brown babies. This vote makes clear that Republicans want to starve all poor babies. We regret the error.

The emergency funding would be used to increase the number of FDA inspection staff, provide resources for personnel working on formula issues, help the agency stop fraudulent baby formula from entering the US marketplace, and improve data collection on the formula market, according to a release from the House Appropriations Committee.

New York corrections officer suspended for allegedly sharing social media post mocking Buffalo supermarket shooting
The racially motivated shooting left 10 dead and three injured — and is the last thing anyone should be mocking.
Gregory C. Foster II, a correction officer at the Attica Correctional Facility in Attica, about a hour away from Buffalo, shared a "despicable social media post," the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) said in a Tuesday statement.
He allegedly shared a meme on Facebook that showed a photo of the Tops supermarket with a caption about a “clean up” in multiple aisles DOCCS confirmed.

911 dispatcher faces firing for "hanging up" on caller during Buffalo massacre
While police had already been dispatched to the grocery store, the alleged actions of the accused dispatcher are downright appalling.

A 911 dispatcher accused of hanging up on a caller from a Buffalo supermarket during Saturday’s mass shooting could be fired. The unidentified dispatcher faces a disciplinary hearing later this month at which “termination will be sought,” according to a spokesman for Erie County, New York. The investigation was prompted by comments from Latisha Rogers, an office manager at the Tops supermarket who called 911 after the gunman began his rampage. “She was yelling at me, saying, ‘Why are you whispering? You don’t have to whisper,’” Rogers told The Buffalo News, “and I was telling her, ‘Ma’am, he’s still in the store. He’s shooting. I’m scared for my life. I don’t want him to hear me. Can you please send help?’ She got mad at me, hung up in my face.” Ten people, all of them Black, were killed in one of America’s worst racist mass killings. The Erie County spokesman said the dispatcher’s actions “had no bearing on the dispatching of the call”: Buffalo police said officers arrived at the store one minute after the first 911 call.

Today’s Action: Tell Congress to hold corporations liable for trampling workers’ rights!
A new survey released by Fight for $15 identified wage theft as a severe issue in industries that earned billions more profit during the pandemic. Fast food (i.e. essential) workers, some of the first people forced back to work during the massive, ongoing health crisis, have been frequently subjected to labor law violations while corporate fat cats continue to line their pockets from record profits.
85% of survey respondents in California indicated that they’ve experienced at least one form of labor violation at their place of employment. Even more shockingly, over 60% indicated experiencing multiple types of wage theft, including insufficient overtime pay and lack of compensation for total hours worked.
In the Fight for $15 report, authors assert that part of the fast food franchise model involves cutting corners specifically at the expense of their employees' paychecks. This is wholly unacceptable. Corporations should not be able to short-change their employees' hard-earned wages, especially not in the fast food industry where workers are already under compensated.
The Service Employees International Union is currently backing a bill that would make California the first state in the country to hold corporations accountable for labor law violations that affect fast food employees. The rest of the country should absolutely follow their lead.
