Headline after headline this week has reminded us we’re on the precipice of a major regional war in the Middle East.
But here’s the thing about a precipice: Falling off isn’t a foregone conclusion.
Right now, we’re closely watching whether the Iranian government will retaliate against Israeli strikes on an Iranian embassy compound in Syria. Reports are shifting by the minute, and we know what happens next will be the difference between de-escalation or war with Iran.
The tragic suffering and loss of life we’ve already witnessed is unacceptable, but the chance things deteriorate further is still incredibly high. That’s why President Biden must do everything in his power to immediately secure a ceasefire in Gaza and lead the kind of robust, regional diplomacy necessary to build a sustainable peace across Israel and Palestine.
With hawks in Congress circling, our team is going into overtime: Steadfastly pushing the Biden administration closer toward using its influence for peace while furiously pulling U.S. decision-makers back from a more devastating regional war. Just one of these efforts requires our focus full-time, but with violence increasing, we need to dig deeper and find ways to go further, fast — and that’s why we’re reaching out today.

War isn’t inevitable. How do we know? Because for the past 189 days, in the face of indefensible suffering and violence, we’ve been part of an inspired movement of people showing up to do ALL they can to end one — and our voices have helped avoid an even more devastating, broader conflict.
But the war in Gaza fuels a regional inferno. That’s why we continue to race toward off-ramps and are more committed to securing a ceasefire than ever. Reports the Iranian government told the Biden administration a ceasefire in Gaza would prevent it from attacking Israel demonstrate how crucial any pause in the violence is for regional stability.
This moment is hard. Escalation with Iran would make it less likely for hostages to come home safely, put people across the region in further danger, and also impact even more of us here in the United States by increasing the likelihood the U.S. military gets drawn into direct conflict. As difficult as it may be to keep engaging with this conflict, when people turn away, the cycle of violence drags on.
That’s why our community gives us so much hope: A failed foreign policy status quo that prioritizes profit and war over people and peace won’t change without people fighting every day in ways big and small for a better future — but people like you are the ones who will help build toward that vision.
The status quo isn’t delivering peace — the ability to live and thrive without the threat of violence — for anyone. So here’s the plan: We’re clearing our desks to go from office to office across DC to ensure that YOUR calls for peace drown out the hawks and weapons lobbyists.
After so many emails, you might wonder, ‘Can a few dollars really help?’
The answer is YES. Because by the time you read this, lots of people have already given. And those donations — $6, $25, $200, anything — add up to a huge amount. All this support fuels a movement powerful enough to stop a war.
We can — and must — reject a false choice between doing nothing or dropping bombs. So let’s raise our voices today and always. Let’s work to stop the slaughter in Gaza, get the remaining hostages safely home, and refuse a future where violence seems inevitable.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
