Jared Kushner’s deal with Saudi Arabia’s dictator

 

Friend: Earlier this month, Broadside Books announced they’re set to publish Jared Kushner’s memoir later this summer. But Kushner doesn’t need a book deal. He needs an indictment.

Why? Six months after leaving the White House, Kushner secured a $2 BILLION investment from a fund led by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman — over objections from the fund’s advisers and with little to show for it except influence peddling and corrupt networks. 

We have to ask: Is this a potential kickback for Kushner’s past actions in the White House that benefited the Saudi government? Or is it a down payment on future favors should his father-in-law seek and win another four years in the Oval Office? 

Either way, here’s the deal: If we want our public officials to act ethically, then we have to make sure Jared Kusher, and folks like him who have made corruption a part-time gig, face consequences for their actions. Kushner must face harder questions than what he'll get on a cushy summer book tour. That’s why we’re demanding the Department of Justice investigate Kushner NOW.

Kushner’s deal with MBS’s fund reeks of corruption and a lack of accountability — but it’s only the latest in a long line of allegations that include potential crimes, conflicts of interest, and negligence. 

We must not abandon accountability or let the graft and nepotism of the Trump administration become normalized. And Kushner has a long history of suspicious self dealing:

• Cozying up to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and promoting a $110 billion weapons deal while Saudi Arabia waged an illegal war against Yemeni civilians and murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi. 
• Receiving a billion-dollar bailout from a Qatari-government-funded investment company, not long after he had backed a Saudi-UAE blockade against Qatar. 
• Repeatedly failing to disclose meetings with foreign officials on his security clearance forms, harming our national security.

This cannot become business as usual. Unless we make real and sure consequences for corruption, future opportunists will replay the Trump playbook again and again. We’ve got to draw a line now and reject the actions that have led to so much death and suffering.

We deserve a full investigation into all of these accusations and misdeeds before Kushner is allowed to profit further, and the reality is we simply don’t know the full story. Senator Elizabeth Warren has already called on the DOJ to investigate Jared Kushner’s flagrant conflicts of interest; can you help amplify her call?
