Speaker Nancy Pelosi helped conservative anti-abortion Democrat Henry Cuellar win his House primary against Justice Democrats in May. Now, Cuellar has a new bill with Republicans to eviscerate labor protections in America.
Pelosi’s choice in TX-28 is trying to “effectively get rid of the minimum wage and overtime compensation,” according to experts. Cuellar is doing the bidding of gig companies like Uber and DoorDash who exploit workers by classifying them as independent contractors.
This is a terrible bill that could pass with the support of Republicans and corporate Democrats like Cuellar. Cuellar’s position on labor standards is one of the reasons Justice Democrats backed Jessica Cisneros in TX-28. But Pelosi, Cuellar, and big corporate money won.
We know primaries are important. Justice Democrats fight to elect leaders who will advocate for the people, not corporations. That’s why we’re working to re-elect Cori Bush and Rashida Tlaib, who fight for working people. Can you chip in $10 to fuel our work to help Cori and Rashida win their primaries against corporate Democrats. Their primaries are TOMORROW!
Republican mega-donors and corporate Super PACs have spent more money against Justice Democrats this cycle than ever before — because corporations and the donor class want to protect the status quo. Justice Democrats is fighting to upend the status quo — to protect abortion access, pass Medicare for All, secure a Green New Deal, and so much more.
Corporate Democrats are spending millions to try and stop our progress and defeat Cori and Rashida tomorrow. But we cannot let that happen. We cannot let corporate Democrats like Henry Cuellar strengthen their anti-worker, pro-corporation positions in Congress.
Will you help us re-elect Justice Democrats — the leaders that will fight for working-class people, not big corporations?
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
