GOP fails to hand Trump extra electoral vote in Nebraska

  • The Republican Party’s attempt to hand former President Donald Trump all of Nebraska’s electoral votes has failed after a state GOP lawmaker announced his opposition to the move, causing Gov. Jim Pillen (R) to cede the issue today.

  • Nebraska splits up its electoral votes among its three congressional districts and whoever wins the most votes statewide receives the state’s remaining two votes. Republicans wanted the state to shift over to the winner-take-all system that every other state has, except for Maine.

Courts deliver victories for Alabama and Pennsylvania voters today

  • A Pennsylvania appeals court affirmed that Washington County must notify voters whose submitted mail-in ballots have defects and allow them the chance to vote provisionally at the polls.

  • A federal judge blocked Alabama from enforcing parts of a Republican-backed law that make it a felony to assist voters with disabilities in requesting absentee ballots during the 2024 election.

Pro-voting groups sue over Georgia voter suppression law

  • Civil rights advocates sued Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) over a new voter challenge law, saying the law could illegally disenfranchise transient voters — such as students living in dorms — and unhoused voters.

Get to know the election deniers running in the 2024 election

  • An investigation by Democracy Docket and PublicWise found that at least 230 election deniers are running for reelection this fall in seven swing states: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. This list includes candidates running to be state legislators and county officials.
