This spring, we're heating up our fight against vaccine apartheid and pharmaceutical monopolies because the stakes couldn't be higher. And that's starting with a virtual town hall THIS THURSDAY 4/21 at 7pm EST with global health leaders and Representative Ayanna Pressley, who will call on Moderna to end their vaccine hoarding and share the technology with the rest of the world.
We are over two years into this prolonged pandemic, and pharma shareholders are continuing to profit off of mass death, rather than sharing life-saving science that could end the pandemic for us all.
We're angry because right now, 70% of people in rich countries are vaccinated, while in some countries across the Global South, people are still waiting to get their first shot. Meanwhile, there are over 100 companies ready to make the vaccine, but they are facing technological barriers -- barriers created by Moderna, pharma execs, and more -- stopping them from being able to make the vaccine and add to the global supply. These barriers are manufactured and easily removable. Moderna could choose to share the science rather than hoarding it - but so far they've chosen not to.
That's why one week before Moderna's annual shareholder meeting, our Town Hall will feature global health speakers from India and South Africa, who will explain why we must share vaccine technology with the rest of the world. And, because Moderna is an American company, only based in Boston, it will also take relentless US pressure to force Moderna to meet our demands.
To this end, health care activist Ady Barkan will join the Town Hall, along with MA-7 Congresswoman and health justice champion Ayanna Pressley, to share what vaccine justice means to her and to call out the company in her backyard that holds the key to ending this pandemic.
Can you join us on April 21st at 7pm EST?
See you Thursday!
