In the mid-eighties, I was selected to represent my home state of Mississippi at a Girl Scouts national conference.
But some folks were unhappy with me — a Black girl — carrying this honor. So they changed their travel plans, leaving me behind at the wrong airport.
Do you think I let them stop me? Certainly not. I got on a plane for the first time in my life and flew to Arizona by myself. I made it to the conference and represented my state with pride.
Here is what that moment taught me: We will inevitably face people who try to stop us or block our path. But we cannot let them prevent us from reaching our destination.
Right now, our opponent is organizing against us, hoping we will come up short. But we are going to prove him wrong and we are going to fight back, and keep our campaign for One Georgia moving forward.
This is a moment in which we get to decide: are we going to let the other side shut us out? Or will we show the strength of our support, so we can win the governor’s office and build a brighter, stronger future for Georgia?
Please pitch in right now, to create that better future.
Thank you for being part of this team,
Stacey
