Senator Ron Wyden just revealed yet another paid-for luxury trip that Justice Clarence Thomas failed to disclose to the public. In 2010, GOP billionaire mega-donor Harlan Crow paid for private jet travel for Clarence and Ginni Thomas from Hawaii to New Zealand.¹

This adds to Clarence Thomas’ running list of undisclosed luxury gifts. We previously learned that Crow also took Thomas around the world on his super-yacht, and paid for the Justice's vacations to Indonesia and Russia.²

Thomas and Samuel Alito have failed to maintain their independence on the Supreme Court after accepting millions in lavish gifts from corporate executives and GOP mega-donors. They’ve failed to recuse themselves from cases where they had a clear conflict of interest, including the Trump immunity case. These are the reasons Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has led the campaign to impeach Thomas and Alito.

The United States Supreme Court has lost the confidence of the American public after its raft of corruption scandals — which includes severe ethics issues involving every single conservative justice — and extreme right-wing decisions like overturning Roe v. Wade, granting American presidents absolute immunity, handing over greater power to corporations, and threatening same-sex marriage.

Upon introducing articles of impeachment against Thomas and Alito, AOC said, “Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito’s pattern of refusal to recuse from consequential matters before the court in which they hold widely documented financial and personal entanglements constitutes a grave threat to American rule of law, the integrity of our democracy, and one of the clearest cases for which the tool of impeachment was designed.”³

Congress must join AOC and act strongly and swiftly to hold Thomas and Alito accountable.
