Today has been a day of powerful and mixed emotions for me — and I would imagine, for many of you — as we process last night’s results. But I wanted to share a moment of brightness and gratitude with you: We won.
My race has officially been called, and I am so honored to be the next Senator from the great state of Michigan. Here’s a link to the speech I gave just moments before the results were called: https://www.youtube.com/live/pnZDasKPFps?t=604s
WATCH HEREWe’ll have a more detailed analysis of our race to share this week, but for now I just want to start by saying thank you. This would not have happened without the hard work and support of so many: my family, my campaign manager Matt Hennessey and the team he assembled, the great Senator Debbie Stabenow, and most of all, the voters of Michigan. Not only those who voted for me, but also all of the voters across the state who took the time to make their voice heard.
It has been a tremendous honor to appear on your ballot for U.S. Senator and a privilege to travel across the state and meet so many of you.
While the overall results last night were far from everything we had hoped for, I urge you now more than ever to stay engaged. Take time, grieve, and feel your feelings, but please do not give in to despair.
We will navigate this moment together, like the generations before us who fought for our rights and our freedoms, faced setbacks, but ultimately made life better for us.
You have heard me talk about engaged citizens and principled leaders — we need both now more than ever, and I will do everything in my power to be the principled leader you deserve.
Thank you for all that you have done for me and our state,
Elissa
